I am a Professor at Baruch College, City University of New York. I am the author of the books A Story to Save Your Life: Communication and Culture in Migrants' Search for Asylum (Columbia University Press, 2022), Undocumented Storytellers: Narrating the Immigrant Rights Movement (Oxford University Press, 2019), and U.S. Media and Migration: Refugee Oral Histories (Routledge, 2016). I specialize in research at the interactions of migration, narrative, identity, and media using mixed qualitative methodologies including narrative analysis and oral history. At Baruch, I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Communicating Gender/Race/Ethnicity, Digital Media and Culture, Migration and Identity, Global Communication, and Power/Privilege/Difference. I serve on the Board of Directors at Mixteca, an organization working to enrich, equip, and empower immigrants in Brooklyn and beyond.
