Having completed my undergraduate degree in December of 2022, I am finally entering the career field that has driven my curiosity since a young age. Graduating in 2004 from a prestigious performing arts high school in Baltimore, I took with me the understanding of applied practice in technical proficiencies and the research skills required of an English-speaking operatic singer assigned pieces in multiple languages.I joined the military in the fall of 2009. My time working in a fast-paced environment with demanding physical and intellectual expectations provided the structure I needed to tackle both the mission set of tactical SIGINT duties and the leadership requirements of a squad leader in a SIGINT platoon. I learned to balance administrative tasks with interpersonal relationship building with my Soldiers, fostering a general sense of camaraderie and navigating tense periods of forming-storming group dynamics. I reenlisted and transferred to a strategic site in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2015, where I was able to concurrently begin my undergraduate degree in earnest. During that time, I became an avid weightlifter and competed at the regional level in Frankfurt. Though I was medically retired on a temporary status in 2018, I chose to stay in Europe to continue my education and my competitive weightlifting training. With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, I returned to my family home in Maryland, being officially retired in December of the same year. I continued to compete in weightlifting at the national level while completing my Bachelors degree in Pyschology, adding a Biology minor in 2021. I wanted to better understand the physiological background of human function and dysfunction. I have met many working professionals through my strength training career, and have observed a trend in the application of structured strength training and management of mental health. While I am anxious to begin working, I will continue to pursue a graduate degree in Neuropsychology. I am excited to expand current research into the integrative benefits of strength, conditioning and strength sports in the treatment of neurocognitive and mood disorders.
