About Sarah Dipietra

After completing my first year at Washington University in St. Louis, I took a year off to live in Israel before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, where I am studying Linguistics and minoring in Mathematics and Economics. My primary focus is exploring the overlap between these fields, which is under-researched but ever-growing. I want to learn about the more data-driven side of linguistics, creating greater analytical understanding in the social sciences, as well as learn about the effect of linguistics on different economic trends and theories. My interest in linguistics stems from my deep immersion in different languages (from Hebrew to Italian to German) and my desire to communicate with others. My love of languages has blossomed into a passion for the study of language itself. Beyond academics, I was elected as Executive Vice President of WashU's First Year Class Council, where I fostered connections and enabled transparency between the student body and the administration by streamlining communication. Currently, I am a new member of the UPenn Chapter of TAMID, where I will be spending the next semester on the education track to learn the ropes before choosing between the consulting and fund tracks. Additionally, I am an editor for the digital platform of Penn Appétit, Penn's innovative, student-run magazine covering all things food. I create written content for the website that allows me to share my love of food with the Penn community and beyond. My experience as a leader has given me the ability to take initiative and think outside of the box. I have a personal understanding that success is not linear and I am not afraid to take big but calculated risks in order to get to where I want to be.
