Conducting broad scale biodiversity surveys whilst leading a team of international volunteers, British and local staff, using a number of ecological techniques including camera trapping, small mammal trapping, pitfall trapping and forest walking transects. The year resulted in six peer-reviewed papers being published, including new records of species for the area and range extensions. Aside from the research Sarah was responsible for all volunteer management which included health and safety presentations and tests, logistics of collecting volunteers from the airport and transport into the forest, admin and organising all aspects of camp maintenance.

Assisting in all day to day research activities of the Ground Squirrel Project of Namibia as part of a small team of two people. Duties included twice daily behavioural observations of ground squirrels in the field and monthly trapping to renew individual markings of ground squirrels. During the year Sarah also collected data on group size and vigilance in ground squirrels which she later published in African Journal of Ecology.
