Librarians promote information literacy skills that equip people to find the “truth,” i.e., the quality information, in a digital age in which rumors, misconceptions and downright fictions can often spread at least as easily as facts. I believe this is one of the most important jobs of our time, and I will always make this case when I find myself in earshot of an argument that modern technology makes a library's purpose obsolete. Human intuition is a vital ingredient in information seeking, and while technology may be able to harness and complement that intuition, it is never going to be able to replace it. My goal is to be an approachable resource and friendly assistant to information seekers. It can be frightening to admit a gap in one's knowledge and thus an act of courage to seek help in filling that gap. I believe I have the right kind of temperament to deal with all kinds of information requests with an abundance of patience and a lack of judgment.
