SafeSeas Training was established in 2018 by Sarah Lovell. After seeing a lot of students are needing support outside of the classroom, but were struggling to access support at a time that was suitable for the student, Sarah decided to set up SafeSeas Training.Our ethos is that students should be able to access quality online training throughout their cadetship, from day one right through to passing their orals and this service has been set up to provide support from the first days of learning, right through to practising and perfecting for parts A and B of the MCA assessment process.The SeaSeas Training learning platform allows deck cadets to access online support for the whole of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency syllabus. The platform includes:- Underpinning knowledge for the whole SQA Nautical Science syllabus- Tutorial videos, including step-by-step worked examples- Written ‘How to’ guides for all calculations- Downloadable templates.

To liaise with clients with customised training requirements.• To create technical/ tailored sales proposals to address non-standard training requirements.• To develop new commercial offerings (training/ consulting/ services) that meet the ongoing and evolving requirements of our customers. • To account manage corporate accounts with requirements in the areas of: simulation; eLearning/ blended learning; cadet management; LNG and new fuels.• To assist in setting-up SMT’s cadet management division.• To assist in setting-up and managing SMT’s simulation division.• To provide technical pre-sales support to all account managers.• To design and deliver bespoke marketing materials for the required sectors of the business• Input into the delivery of the SMT social media and marketing campaign• To deliver other services that my background allows e.g. training, consultancy, project management etc

- Support the CEO producing tenders and proposals for clients and potential clients- Development of bespoke products from classroom based courses to bespoke simulation products in line with client requirements- Management of all instructors / resources within the business to ensure seamless delivery of courses- Line management and oversight of the compliance department- Oversight of the lifeboat and fire grounds through the divisional managers and supporting the business as required- Strategic development within the business, looking at new course titles and growth opportunities- Management of the course portfolio, including overseeing the continuous improvement and re-development of current courses every six months- Teaching and assessing as required of all management and simulation courses

Support the development of new and existing e-learning and training products within the Marlins brand. The position involves liaising with authors, subject matter experts and multimedia developers to ensure timely delivery of courses, in line with regulatory requirements. Author of course content for e-learning courses.- Collaborate with stakeholders and the Marlins team to develop/review course scopes and objectives- Co-ordinate project contributors to ensure timely delivery of tasks- Maintain and contribute subject matter knowledge to content development and review processes- Engage with flag state authorities, industry bodies and similar organisations, to seek course recognition and approvals- Review existing course titles and advise on required updates- Anticipate future titles, to ensure compliance with new and upcoming legislation and regulatory changes Use development processes in accordance with Quality Management System, including contributor contracts, purchase orders and record keeping- Engage with clients to gather, log and summarise product feedback for quality log and development plan- Co-ordinate beta testing and revisions- Support training projects with key clients, as required, from time to time- Provide input and support to other Marlins products, in collaboration with the team

Delivery of the Human Element, Leadership and Management Course at the Operational and Management Levels covering the following areas:• Situation and risk assessment: to understand the influence of a situation and risk assessment in the principles and practice of decision making at an operational level.• Situational awareness: how to acquire and maintain situational awareness and accidents and increasing safety margins.• Communication: how to recognise and apply best practice in communication, and be aware of barriers to communication and how these may adversely affect situational awareness.• Shipboard training: to understand the aim of shipboard training, the principles of learning and methods of developing human potential.• Culture: how to recognise and respond to cultural issues including cultural awareness and bias including national, organisational, departmental and personal cultural approaches.• Team working: to recognise team working models and conflict management style.• Leadership and management: to recognise and demonstrate effective leadership behaviours.• Workload management: understand the concept of task and workload management and be able to apply it. Recognising fatigue and stress in yourself and others, and developing strategies for dealing with them.

• Sole Watchkeeper at Sea• Loading Officer in Port. Responsible for the trim and stability of ship to ensure the vessel is in a safe condition.• Responsible for the upkeep of all Navigation / Fire Fighting / Lifesaving Appliances.• Safety of all crew, passengers and visitors onboard the vessel whilst in port.• Joint training and education of the deck crew in line with the company’s set out tool box talks and drill schedules.• Sole charge of mooring stations being in charge of safety, security and operation of the deck ratings.

• Managing the Northern Marine Management Cadet Training Programme and the joint Caledonian MacBrayne and Northlink Ferries scheme. • Onboard training and lecturing of cadets assigned to the tall ship MIR. Liaison with Russian onboard officers, liaison with agents for Stena cadets, medical assistance for cadets, medical repatriation of cadets and mentoring of all cadets throughout voyage.• Develop and maintain relationships with all UK cadets and act as primary point of contact for any cadet related queries. • Liaise with manning offices to monitor progress of all non UK cadets. • Responsible for monitoring cadet development whilst at college and at sea. Responsible for tracking receipt of performance reviews for all cadets received during both college and sea phases. • Manage expenditure to the company Cadet budget and provide monthly budget analysis. • Ensure all relevant funding and subsidies are recovered for all cadet training activities • Monitor and provide reports on cadet travel expenditure. • Submit statistical reports on recruitment, development and cadets to senior management on monthly basis and on request. • Responsible for ensuring that cadet berthing opportunities are fully maximised. Responsible for production of cadet berthing assignment plans for all three companies • Conduct cadet induction and interviews for all new cadets • Develop and maintain relationship with cadet external clients. Conduct regular college visits to update on cadet progress. • Any other duties required relevant to the business of the department.
