Postdoctoral Researcher
Graduate Student
• Led all aspects of a 5-year research project on neurodegeneration• Designed and analyzed data from 10+ quantitative research studies• Assisted in writing and editing grant proposals and laboratory standard operating procedures• Created deliverables as 1 first-author manuscript, 5 co-authored manuscripts, and 2 book chapters• Managed and developed a team of 10+ researchers• Communicated insights at 10+ scientific conferences to relevant stakeholders• Managed over $300k in research funding• Demonstrated a mastery of in vitro techniques by generating and maintaining studies under significant constraints (COVID-19) and produced data that validated in vivo findingsMy dissertation work is focused on understanding epigenetic mechanisms in multiple sclerosis (MS); specifically, how methylation of histones and DNA can be epigenetically regulated through the BHMT-betaine methylation pathway to modify chromatin conformation and subsequent gene expression under conditions of oxidative stress. To this end I have designed and performed experiments analyzing how betaine supplementation impacts oligodendroglial energetics in primary oligodendrocytes, as well as profiled the effect of this pathway on developing oligodendrocytes and their capacity to myelinate under stress. These studies have provided insight to a potential regulatory mechanism that can control oligodendrocyte gene expression under conditions of oxidative stress and promote remyelination of lesions. During my academic career, I had the opportunity to present at several major conferences, TA a variety of relevant courses, and develop a wide range of wet lab skills.
Graduate Research Assistant
My first year of graduate school was spent at the University of Kentucky where I had the opportunity to rotate through multiple labs. Though my time was short, I was able to learn valuable wet lab techniques such as HPLC, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting.

For 5 years I worked in a team setting, enhancing my interpersonal skills through communication with other employees and customers. I also frequently helped with dough preparations. I held this position for 10 hours each week, while balancing a full course load.
