I recently completed my PhD from the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology at Colorado State University and am on the lookout for research, writing, and/or policy opportunities! My passions and research interests include pollinator biodiversity, science communication, and protected area management. I am a highly motivated researcher who loves learning and furthering my scientific discoveries, and this has allowed me to participate in a diverse range of field research and extracurricular experiences. In my time at Colorado State, I have been actively involved in Dr. Gillian Bowser's lab within the Ecosystem Science and Sustainability Department under the Warner College of Natural Resources. Our projects have centered around pollinator biodiversity, citizen science initiatives, and diversity in STEM engagement. My dissertation work assessed pollinator (bumble bee and butterfly) diversity within Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. I answered questions on species taxonomic biases present within databases, phenological mismatch, and climate change responses. I utilized data and tools from sources such as Natural History Collections, citizen science, satellite imagery, and long-term monitoring sites. These tools broadened my perspectives towards answering critical questions centered around biodiversity loss and climate change, and I hope to continue working with these data in future projects. Additionally, working in the National Parks, and two with high visitation rates and research standards, taught me skills towards research and public land ethics that are applicable towards any future research location. I received a National Science Foundation INTERN grant in 2021-2022 to learn skill sets outside of academia. I shadowed two supervisors at the National Park Service Washington Support Office (WASO) within the Inventory and Monitoring Division (IMD), Drs. Tracy Ziegler and Tom Philippi. In my time with IMD, I gained additional experience working with parks, applying scientific understanding to park management questions and priorities, and scaling my dissertation research methods towards more parks in need of pollinator data collections.
