Sara joined the American Academy of Pediatrics as a State Government Affairs Analyst in 2023. In this role, she monitors and tracks state legislation in her assigned issues, as well as provides analysis, advocacy strategy, consultation, and technical assistance to chapters, committees, councils, and other groups seeking to influence state government policy.Prior to joining the American Academy of Pediatrics, Sara worked for Real Chemistry as a Project Analyst for 3+ years. In this role, she supported client projects by conducting research and analysis on value-based care initiatives and quality measurement in the healthcare industry. Some of her projects included reports that synthesize policy updates with implications for consumers, payers, and providers, a strategic plan for hospitals to prioritize post-acute and long-term care, and a systematic literature review analyzing the impact of antibiotic use and vaccines on antimicrobial resistance. Sara also worked as a legislative intern for the Maryland Hospital Association, where she wrote position papers for health care bills during the 2019 legislative session of the Maryland General Assembly and assisted on advocacy efforts for the Maryland Model. She also interned for the late US Representative Elijah E. Cummings (MD), where she received a Congressional Achievement Award for her research on the opioid epidemic in Baltimore City.
