I am a passionate advocate for meaningful, dynamic teaching and learning. My experience as a university lecturer in teacher education, a teaching and learning consultant for an online education software company, a middle school teacher, and a mom who has raised two kids, all help me see that John Dewey and Parker Palmer, both of whom encourage us to let genuine experience and careful exploration of our inner-selves guide our practice, are really right. Students of any age, ethnicity and socioeconomic background learn best when they inquire -- when they pursue understanding, not when they acquire information. As teachers, it is our duty, and perhaps even our moral imperative to co-create with our students the very situations which will enable them to construct meaning. As a teacher of rising teachers and as a consultant to more seasoned teachers, I see the great and deeply exciting opportunity I have to impact education. Just as my middle school students learned by doing, by reflecting and by critically examining, so do my adult learners. Together we pose questions, explore ideas, consider our assumptions and biases and strive to be better.
