Youth development organization that empowers Chicago’s youth with social-emotional skills and social capital through sport, play and mentorship. -Designed, launched and facilitating an anti-racist and anti-oppressive Community of Practice for Chicago-based youth development organizations in collaboration with leading youth development organizations.-Spearheaded the design and launch of a healing-centered framework for all youth programs which centers anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.-Driving a partnership to ensure youth have equitable access to social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health programs across Chicago through an SEL mapping project.

I oversaw high-quality program design and implementation, team management and the overall strategic direction of social-emotional learning-based youth development programming for elementary, middle and high school students.-Managed, coached and led professional learning for 17 full time staff who serve over 1,500 youth through 3 programs in 45 Chicago Public Schools.-Developed and implemented professional development plan that supported my direct reports’ long-term career goals. This plan supported staff motivation and happiness so much so that the process was adopted across the organization.-Oversaw a reorganization of the department to build capacity of our programming. Through this transition, I unified the department around a new strategic vision and communally built team culture. Three months after this transition, staff rated me a 4.7 out of 5 on effectiveness as a departmental leader and rated our department’s culture a 4.5 out of 5. -Developed and spearheaded process for continuous quality program improvement and prioritized this within my department’s culture. As a result the percentage of schools that were meeting program attendance standards increased by 28% and roster sizes increased by 18%.-Led the development and launch of remote programming for middle school students when school’s closed because of COVID-19. As a result, we engaged over 40% of those students in virtual learning compared to peer organizations who were only able to engage 5 to 15% of their students during this same time period. -Developed and implemented the first 3-year strategic plan for the Continuum of Programming department.-Managed $1.2 million department budget.

-Led coalition of staff to launch the Antiracist and Antioppressive Committee. Procured a budget for this work and cultivated over $17,000 of in-kind funding. -Developed and implemented an annual antiracist and antioppressive strategic plan including measurable key performance indicators that are in alignment with our organizational vision. -Designed and launched organization-wide dashboards that track progress on these key performance indicators. -Plan and facilitate professional learning for 55 staff to build their capacity for anti-racist and antioppressive work and support their achievement of key performance indicators.-Developed annual survey to measure impact of antiracism and antioppresion work. After one year, the survey showed a statistically significant improvement in how staff who identified as black rated office culture, their experience with racism, the number of microaggressions that they experienced and their confidence that things were positively changing at Urban Initiatives.

Rwanda, Myanmar, Cambodia

Youth development organization that teaches gender equity through sport to youth and adults in Rwanda, Myanmar and Cambodia. -Developed and facilitated multiple 5-day workshops for 13 Rwandan coaches, 24, U.S. Olympians and 35 Khmer and Burmese coaches through a two-way international exchange program that deepened participants’ understanding of gender equity and sports diplomacy.

-Managed, coached and led all professional development for 13 Rwandan gender equity coaches. -Designed a results-driven gender equity education program for 150 youth. Boys from the program were 83% more likely to be able to work in mixed gender groups than their male peers and girls were 85% more likely to show leadership skills than their peers. KPI boys and girls were also 20% more likely than their peers to use their voice to speak up for females who were being treated unfairly. -Tracked, managed and reported qualitative, quantitative and financial information for an international exchange grant through the U.S. State Department.-Maintained ongoing communication and relationships with key stakeholders including partner schools, community leaders and key stakeholders throughout the country.-Coached, mentored and implemented trainings for 13 Rwandan staff members.

Denver, Co

Youth development organization that used sport to prevent childhood obesity and juvenile delinquency. -Developed and implemented a strategic development plan to launch Soccer for Success for the first time in Denver and Aurora Public Schools and Boys and Girls Clubs. Grew the program from 700 to 2,500 youth in two years through the development of an outreach strategy that targeted communities in the Denver area with the biggest gaps in sports access.-Managed and trained 3 full time staff and 200 part-time coaches.-Managed a budget of over $800,000 annually.-Developed and managed relationships with community partners including schools, recreation. centers and health-focused nonprofits.

Youth development organization that encourages students to live healthy and active lives through soccer.-Collaborated with Soccer for Success operators throughout the U.S. to build unique trainings that met the needs of their coaching staff, ultimately training 500 youth workers per year.

-Aligned the curriculum with the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Coaching Curriculum and with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Healthy Eating Curriculum.-Evaluated Soccer for Success sites through site visits and compiled and analyzed all Soccer for Success site visit evaluation forms completed by other Foundation staff members.-Assisted in all aspects of the planning and operation of the 6th Annual Urban Soccer Symposium.
