Vico Products was a relatively second thought in the whirlpool bath market for years even though they had patented quite a few products. When I began at Vico as their Sales Manager, they were about $5 million in bath sales only. Within ten years, sales exceeded $45 million. Vico was established as the leader in the whirlpool bath market especially with pumps. The design and innovation that went into the Wow pump took market share like a storm. It was the right product at the right price at the right time. In 1997, Vico entered the spa market as a component supplier. Within two years, Vico was the #2 pump supplier. Within 5 years, Vico was pushing Aqua Flo for the #1 position with 8 of the top 10 spa manufacturers using the Vico spa pumps. Vico was sold in 2005 to Sta-rite which was consequently sold to Pentair who spun it off to Balboa Group. The Wow pump is still the industry leading pump design with all other competitive pumps a knock-off of it.

I began at Franklin Electric in 1984 as a sales trainee - the first sales trainee that Franklin had ever had. That year, I saw my boss receive the 'Salesman of the Year" award. I will never forget it. I set a goal of winning that award twice that night. Within 3 years, I received my first and 5 years later achieved the goal. Runner up three times with a special recognition award given for identification of what is now the "Pumptec" product line for Franklin Electric. I loved the motor business and the experience I had at Franklin Electric served me well in my future career.
