Investigating the prevalence of peri-implantitis of patients at UNC Adams School of Dentistry from 2004-2021 to study any correlation with confounding factors (age, health history, implant type, etc.)

CAARE clinic is a student-run dental clinic that increases access to care and provides free, quality urgent and preventive oral health care to the underserved population in the Durham community. Annually, the clinic provides over $45,000 in free restorative, surgical, and removable prosthodontics care.

Plan and host the semesterly Impressions Day Program, designed to expose underrepresented pre-dental students to a career in dentistry and the dental school application and financial aid process

Served as mentors for the dental cohort, providing assistance on applications to dental school, rigorous MED coursework, studying for the DAT, and a future life as a dental student and professional

Served as a role model and near-peer mentor, with a partner teacher, for 50+ 6th and 8th graders in math classrooms to bridge the achievement gap of what schools can provide and what students need. Worked with select students on attendance, behavior, and course performance through frequent goal-setting and small group interventions to improve their learning outcomes and supplement their social-emotional learning.

Investigated the signaling pathways that drive mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the salivary gland and oral squamous cell carcinoma, specifically the CRTC1/MAML2-PGC-1 circuit regulating IGF-1 in mucoepidermoid carcinomas using bioinformatics, animal models, and molecular genetic analyses. In an independent project, explored the function of CREB Coactivator in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) by focusing on the mechanisms regulating CRTC2 activity via transcriptional assays (PCR and qPCR) and protein analyses (primarily western blotting and immunofluorescence assays).

Directed the planning of the South Asian festival with annual attendance of 2500-3000 each year, including logistical details, cultural events, publicity, and finances

Created and managed a budget of over $450,000, monitored overall CUAB financial progress throughout the year and determined future committee budgets based on historical spending. Instituted the financial officer role and met with them monthly to frame event budgets, hold financial education trainings with committee members, and train them on the importance of fiscal responsibility.

The Medical Education Development (MED) Program is an intensive educational experience and challenging opportunity to gain insight into the realities of attending medical or dental school. The program offers a structured summer curriculum at the level of professional education to increase the ability of advanced pre-professional candidates, especially those who are disadvantaged, to compete successfully for admission to health professional schools. A typical schedule involved about 325 structured hours during nine weeks, with courses taught by UNC Schools of Medicine and Dentistry faculty.
