Dr. Savvas Argyropoulos is the founder and CEO of StreamOwl in Athens, Greece, a startup focusing on autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for inspection and maintenance of infrastructures, agriculture applications, and unsupervised navigation in 3D environments based on computer vision and Machine Learning methods. He is also an expert in video streaming technologies and video processing for objective video quality assessment.Dr. Savvas Argyropoulos received the Diploma and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. From 2009 to 2014 he was a research scientist at Deutsche Telekom Laboratories (T-Labs) and the Technical University of Berlin (TUB), in Berlin, Germany. From 2005 to 2008, he was a Research Associate with the Informatics and Telematics Institute, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (ITI/CERTH). He has participated in several EU research projects (3DTV, SIMILAR, HUMABIO, ACTIBIO) and has co-ordinated several R&D EU projects at StreamOwl. Also, he contributes regularly to standardization bodies, especially in Study Group 12 of ITU-T, and the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG). He is the co-author of more than 40 scientific papers in international journals, conferences and book chapters, numbering more than 600 non-self citations and 11 patent applications. Dr. Argyropoulos is a member of IEEE.
