Associate, March 2012 - August 2016Summer Associate, 2011After graduating from law school in December 2011 and passing the Texas Bar Exam, I began my legal career as an intellectual property associate with Jones Day. There, I was fortunate to develop valuable legal skills and cherished relationships with many brilliant attorneys.My responsibilities at Jones Day related to all aspects and phases of patent and trade secret litigation, from pre-filing investigations through post-trial briefing and appeals. I gained extensive experience drafting and editing strategically important briefs, motions, and other pleadings. And, I orally argued motions in federal district court. An equally important aspect of my practice at Jones Day included patent preparation and prosecution, both foreign and domestic. I advised clients with respect to protecting intellectual property, and I gained significant experience providing patentability, freedom to operate, and invalidity opinions in the mechanical and electrical arts.

Fort Worth, Texas

At Sikorsky, I produced detailed designs and solved problems relating to helicopter gearboxes. Helicopter drive systems are among the world's most complex and technologically advanced mechanical systems. And that made my work at Sikorsky interesting and challenging. In 2008, I joined the evening law program at SMU. For the next 3+ years, I would work as a Sikorsky engineer in Fort Worth by day, before making the drive over to Dallas to moonlight as a law student.

Austin, Texas

Ultra Clean Technology ("UCT") supplies subsystems, primarily gas delivery systems, for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. At UCT, I designed and configured gas panels for custom semiconductor manufacturing equipment based on the end customer's specifications. Similar to Peterbilt, UCT engineers remain responsible for designed products through delivery and beyond. Clean room manufacturing is certainly a different environment from heavy truck assembly, but I enjoyed that UCT engineers maintained responsibility for products and designs beyond the drawing board.

Denton, Texas

As part of my work with Peterbilt, I produced detailed designs relating to truck cabs, sleepers, and interiors to support projects aimed at quality improvement and cost reduction. One of the things I enjoyed most about my work at Peterbilt was that, as an engineer, I was responsible for projects from conception through implementation, and out to the manufacturing floor and into the service field.

Sugar Land, Texas

After graduating from Texas A&M, I joined Fluor, where I performed stress analysis on piping systems in refineries undergoing revamp. Primarily, I identified and redesigned piping systems that were either over-stressed, or that overloaded sensitive equipment. I also created detailed designs for custom piping supports and restraints.
