Awarded silver axe as top firefighting recruit Course 93 Lancashire County Fire Brigade. Specialist Fire Safety Officer responsible for major projects and also a District Fire Safety Officer working on local fire safety enforcement. Managed a large commercial training centre, delivering, fire service/industrial training. Developed a competency based training framework. Put the infrastructure in place for a new operational Division on restructure of the Service; Divisional Commander of a large operational Division; Responsible for Lancashire's International Search & Rescue team & deployed & managed their response to the Pakistan earthquake. As Head of Risk I managed the Service New Dimensions Programme including the provision of High Volume Pumps and the Urban Search & Rescue Unit. Project managed high value procurements such as pooled PPE, Gartan Asset Management Software, breathing apparatus & telemetry. Reviewed and rationalised aerial ladder provision. Reviewed & rationalised the service wide provision of special appliances & managed the relocation of assets. This included the development of new decontamination procedures and the concept of hazmat units. Developed and delivered the water rescue strategy for the service including the concept of water rescue pumps. Represented the Service on numerous national working groups. Gold Command trained & managed many complex emergency incidents. I joined the University in 2008. I specialise in fire safety, health and safety, business continuity & investigative practice. I developed a framework for fire investigation qualifications & an MSc in Fire Scene Investigation. Recently I have written an academic framework for fire risk assessors, which allows competency based qualifications to be integrated into higher education. My research area is the impact of high velocity human factors in safety critical domains. I am an Incorporated Fire Engineer registered with the Engineering Council and a Chartered Health & Safety Practitioner listed on the Occupational Safety & Health Consultants Register. Certified Fire Risk Assessor to BS EN 17024 - 2012. (FRACS). Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessor Tier 3 (NAFRAR) licensed to carry out Fire Risk Assessments on high risk and complex buildings. Examined and tested by an independent third party accreditation/certification scheme. Through my consultancy Safety Concerns UK I provide safety advice to clients operating in risk critical areas such as DSEAR compliance and risk assessment.
