Helped a bit with the early planning of SparkCon, a Raleigh NC based conference aimed at creating an image of the Research Triangle region as a creative, vibrant community for artists and technologists of all stripes.

Starting with the seminal "polar bear" book on information architecture, I was a technical reviewer for and contributor to several books for O'Reilly and Associates, including Unix Power Tools 3/e, a variety of Hacks books (Yahoo!, Web Scripting), and several other books (MacOS X for Unix Geeks, Learning Javascript).

Gave two presentations on spam and abuse to a conference of Web developers and usability folks in lovely Wellington, NZ

Co-founded the Web Standards Project, which helped to defend Web standards against the predations and hallucinatory expansions introduced by Netscape and Microsoft and others; successfully lobbied for the adoption of the NGLayout / Gecko rendering engine and against the W3C RAND copyright policy, among others. Worked on-site for IBM PC Company's Internet Project Office, served as Junior Webmaster, developed Cold Fusion-based workflow application to manage all updates and new projects. Wrote more than half of the perl CGI scripts in use on the Web site, and worked with CKS on a major redesign of the site.

Provided intranet design and management consulting to various organizations, including a large hospital.

Proposed and ran Web Services department for Imonics, built a team of twelve Web and intranet consultants who worked with all other aspects of Imonics' operations. Created and enforced policies for intranet content and management. Built tools for intranet such as searchable online phonebook / employee directory, building / office map, and others. Provided.

I was paid by a public relations firm to monitor certain environmentalist Usenet newsgroups, BBSes, and online services for discussions related to the semiconductor industry and summarize any such discussions for a newsletter.

Performed all aspects of document conversion from scanning in documents to OCR and proofing output, including applying SGML markup (scripted and hand-edited) and writing/maintaining perl scripts to automate markup process. Was responsible for scanning halftones via Mac Quadra and manipulating them via Photoshop.
