In this role, which demanded diplomacy, composure, and impartiality, I served as the Command Inspector General for 5th Signal Command until the unit deactivated, completing my tenure in Germany as Lieutenant Colonel and Division Chief in the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) Inspector General’s Office. ➥Served as the eyes, ears, and conscience of the Commander, overseeing Teaching and Training, Inspections, Assistance, and Investigations. ➥ Deployed the authority to proactively prevent issues, as well as unravel problematic situations and deliver recommendations for sustainable solutions. ➥ Leveraged knowledge of regulations in representing facts and code, delivering impartial reviews and assessments to help the organization and individuals move forward. ➥ Oversaw the Nuclear Communications Surety in Europe, a no-fail mission requiring a rigid, formal inspection of all capabilities/backups. ➥ Awarded Wiesbaden Military Volunteer of the Year for 2019-2020

In this position I managed 50 Signal Officers across JBLM and served as staff SME on Information Technology and Telephonic/Radio Communications. I conveyed any anticipated requirements or shortfalls to the Corps G-6 and responsible Branch Chiefs. In leading this Army contingency corps, I supported a globally responsive and regionally aligned joint task force-capable headquarters focused on the Pacific Rim and the U.S. Pacific Command’s theater campaign requirements. ➥ Supervised the skill and position progression of signal officers at various ranks, an autonomous HR role facilitating the growth of both IT personnel and radio operators. ➥ Packaged talent and alignment work and made recommendations to superiors.➥ Served as acting I Corps G-6 regularly when Director deployed to Japan.

Led policy creation, operations, and technology in several high-impact, global roles involving African partner nations. ➥ Led a combined military-civilian team and five direct reports in developing and authoring policies outlining how the U.S. military would interact with and communicate within the newly formed Africa Command. ➥ Challenged by a lack of coordination between African regions, managed the operational planning, budgeting programs, and policy creation that impact the U.S. Army’s partnership with African militaries. ➥ Served as the J-6, a senior member of Joint Task Force Odyssey Guard focused on Libya. Responsible for all Information Systems and Communications with a multi-service team, earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal for role in the success of the task force.➥ Entrusted as U.S. Delegation Chief for a two-year series of communication interoperability exercises involving 32 African partner nations. Served as the U.S. delegation’s sole voting member for this, the Department of Defense’s largest, most inclusive exercise in Africa, on the establishment and documentation of techniques and procedures.

Here I assumed the challenge of fielding and deploying new equipment in a high-stakes implementation in a dynamic, developing country. I was then tapped to serve as a liaison officer between the Kurdish civilian regional government, the U.S. Army, and State Department personnel to establish new ways of working together. I became a highly valued link and was retained in the role to sustain progress and communication inroads. ➥ In a desert environment with no infrastructure, provided the nodes, extensions, and relays for a satellite transmission-based communication system vital to the functioning of aviation and infantry assets. Managed the training of soldiers on new equipment fielding. ➥ Tapped for an additional, unique mission to establish trust and synergy between disparate groups with shared goals. ➥ Brokered a pivotal understanding between a Kurdish general officer of combat engineers and a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working to disarm mines in the area. Navigating the NGO’s mistrust of the military and the General’s resistance to shared leadership, negotiated both sides to a comfort level with one another and a new approach to mine mitigation, using the General’s manpower and the NGO’s funding to accomplish a potentially life-saving effort. ➥ Facilitated visits by civilian and military leaders from multiple nations, personally commended by the U.S. Ambassador and the U.S. Vice President for professionalism.➥ Awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone for the entirety of work done during the 15-month deployment.
