For 40 years, we’ve been the leader in the postal software industry."I am currently a scrum master for four scrum teams responsible for all BCC software product offerings. In the past year, I have coached my teams through their initial agile storming phases to "norming." They are now mature agile teams and continue to progress to higher levels of agile maturity through continuous improvement. I would stack these teams up against any team I have worked with in my career.

I teach Foundations of Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Testing and Interaction Design within RIT's Human-Computer Interaction MS Degree program (http://hci.rit.edu/). My lectures are conducted in a mixed learning environment with student participation both on-campus and on-line.When RIT transitioned from a quarter to a semester system, I redesigned the course syllabuses for the Foundation of Human-Computer Interaction and Usability Testing courses. I continually update and create original course content and materials.

QVI is a world leader in metrology (part measurement). I was brought in to design the next generation of metrology software products as well as improve the usability and user experience of QVI’s existing products. I conducted contextual inquiries and heuristic usability evaluations on QVI and competitor products, the results of which were presented to all levels of the organization. Using the results of the contextual inquiries and heuristic evaluations, I created low- and high-fidelity prototypes for both new and existing metrology applications. A typical comment I often hear while presenting my work at QVI is, “I wish we had you here three years ago!” In addition to my user experience work, I introduced Agile and Scrum to the software development organization. My training and mentoring resulted in "order of magnitude improvement" in the number of features implemented during the most recent release of QVI's flagship product.

Instrumental in Paychex’s transformation from a waterfall to an Agile software development organization. Trained and coached software development teams across different programs on Scrum and Kanban software development techniques and best practices as well as configuration and use of the software development tracking tool JIRA. Embedding with four to five teams at a time for twelve-week periods, I trained each team in either Scrum or Kanban as appropriate for their circumstances. Special emphasis was placed on coaching the Product Owner and Scrum Master roles, single and multi-team release planning and tracking, efficient story size estimation techniques, sprint planning and tracking, daily standups, sprint reviews and demos, and retrospectives. In addition to training each team, I was responsible for training and guiding the program management teams associated with my scrum teams.

Created a company specializing in online study collaboration tools for students and educators. Designed proprietary study algorithms based upon spaced repetition techniques to enhance efficacy and efficiency of study sessions. Designed and conducted research in order to determine user study habits and interface preferences. Website design and development using HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, jQuery, PHP, and MySQL. Created business plan, pitched idea to investors, recruited and managed employees.

Managed and led the user-interface design team. Drove the technical definition and delivery of simplified and specialized user workflows for medical x-ray image capture devices. Designed and conducted heuristic evaluations and usability evaluation experiments to determine the efficacy of our designs. Conducted contextual inquiries (field studies) to study radiology workflow in various settings in the United States and China. In the U.S., these studies were conducted in hospital emergency rooms, pediatric intensive care, cardiac intensive care and general radiology. In China, these studies were conducted in hospital radiology departments in Shanghai and Hong Kong as well as rural clinics outside Shanghai. Designed high-efficiency user-interface workflows based on the results. Created prototypes using Axure, Photoshop, Flash, Balsamiq and PowerPoint. Created and conducted user interface design training for software engineers. Created training content using Camtasia, Flash, and PowerPoint.

Formerly Eastman Kodak Company’s Health Imaging Business. Led development of a Radiological Information System and a Patient Portal in a distributed team environment with members in Canada, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, Iceland and the United States. Ensured projects met all commitments. Used Agile and Scrum development methods. Wrote Customer Requirements Documents (CRDs) and Product Requirements Documents (PRSs). Served as the development representative to the business team. Coordinated software, quality assurance, release and trade trial activities. Created and tracked project plans using Microsoft Project. Tracked defects using Rational ClearQuest. Software and database design and development using Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, .NET, Oracle PL/SQL, Visual Basic, Crystal Reports, ClearCase and Visual Source Safe.

Designed and developed software for digital imaging products such as KODAK I.Lab, CONVERSION SYSTEM 1200, KODAK PICTURE DISK and KODAK PHOTO CD. Key responsibilities: Project leadership. Write Software Requirements and Functional Specification documents. Lead development effort for localization of software to foreign markets (Japan, France, Germany, Spain). User-interface design and development. Database design and development utilizing SQL Server. Software development utilizing C++, COM, ADO, VB, Microsoft Access, and Crystal Reports

Designed and developed x-ray simulation and training software for the security industry. Key responsibilities: Project management. Create custom x-ray image rendering and manipulation software. Localize software to foreign markets (China, Russia, Spain, Kuwait, France). Train and supervise translators. Coordinate integration of translated text into final product. Write custom translation software for use by translators . Database development and management. Develop and edit training content. Create serial and SCSI software for communication with security x-ray machines. Conduct product demonstrations to prospective clients. Prepare and present training classes to end-users and service technicians.

Managed the Information Systems team, planned and supervised ongoing projects, managed the daily operations of the VAX, and advised upper management on potential business strategies. Responsible for the design, development and maintenance of a large-scale, multi-file Rdb/VMS database. This database is currently used for the storage and retrieval of legal and real estate documents recorded in the Monroe County Clerk’s office. Using RDML with C as the host language, specific programming tasks included coding: front-end, user friendly query programs to enable clients remote access to the database; data storage programs and special reporting programs. Duties also involved conducting product demonstrations to prospective clients and formal presentations to the board of directors.
