Owner / Ceramicist
Currentwww.cannonballclay.com I’ve been digging into clay for almost 3 years now; its gone from a little Tuesday night class where I could expend some of my pent up creative energy into something I crave to work on every single day. I found joy in learning the basics - ceramics is as much about science as it is about art - and I found joy in learning how to piece together raw materials into something that would eventually become art. But my real excitement came in pushing limits and learning more about how the science could be bent to create even more interesting pieces. And then there’s the risk and rush that comes from working on a piece for hours, days, or weeks, and then putting it into a box that you then heat to over 2,000 degrees while praying it comes out in one piece - sometimes it does, but a lot of times those experiments fail.Over the past three years, this constant success and failure has given me new energy and drive while teaching me so much. After working with incredible teachers and in great community spaces, we went all in and renovated the lower level of our house into a full ceramics studio where I can do what I love in a deeper way.Bio: Cannon is a multi-disciplinary artisan whose evocative works transcend traditional boundaries to explore the complex stories that we hold within. With formal training in photography and design, Cannon has expanded his practice over the past decade with explorations and training in traditional and contemporary mediums alike. He is artist who understands and explores the value and story of the things we collect as a visual study of who we are and the secrets we hold tight.
