My doctoral research addressed the confluence of rural development, internal and international migration, and ethnic politics in northeastern Asia. I received my Ph.D. in August 2016.

I received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct my doctoral research in northeastern China. This included a 3-month language intensive course at Harbin Institute of Technology, followed by 11 months conducting qualitative research in the city of Yanji, Jilin Province, China.
