About Ezzy Schusterman
Ezzy Schusterman grew up in Long Beach, California. He attended Jewish day school and later graduated from the Oholei Torah Talmudic Seminary in Brooklyn, New York. From a young age, he was involved in community service and working with youth. Pursuing his rabbinical education in Australia, he found his passion of working with at-risk students and special needs children in the Jewish community.When he returned to the U.S., he worked to gain the practical technology and financial skills needed to lead an organization. These skills were quickly put to use when he married his wife Nechama, a Palo Alto native and founder of the Bay Area Friendship Circle. Assuming the role of Executive Director of the Friendship Circle in 2005, Ezzy has lead the organization to strengthen its youth programs, reach out to more teen volunteers and their families, and to raise awareness and inclusiveness within the broader community.

CurrentEzzy, together with his wife Nechama, has led the Friendship Circle (www.BayAreaFC.org) into the organization it is today. Currently Serving more than 120 families with children with special needs and more than 125 high school students annually. Currently, the Friendship Circle offers over 15 programs for families with a special child and high school mentors across the Peninsula and South Bay. About Friendship CircleThe Friendship Circle, was born from innovation, where two compelling community needs and two target populations were creatively addressed through one synergistic program design. Special Needs Children and their families need to be accepted and welcomed as members of the community. Children need to have positive and meaningful interactions (friendships) with their fully abled peers, and in turn, learn to be a friend. Their families need support, acceptance and respite opportunities. Teens in middle and high school need to have meaningful volunteer opportunities during after school and weekend time, in which they can:Interact with Jewish friends and peers from other schools;Engage in teambuilding activities that help them develop a sense of responsibility and empathy toward others,Regularly and meaningfully contribute to their community, and help other children in a way that adults cannot. Today Friendship Circle serves children, teens and adults with special needs through a full range of ongoing programs. Together, the volunteers, participants, parents, staff and supporters who make up the Friendship Circle can perform miracles.
