Police DetectiveSouth Yorkshire Police Mar 2004 - Apr 2023South Yorkshire, England, United KingdomInitially working in front-line operational policing, I developed an aptitude for investigations and progressed to Detective Constable, leading my own investigations and managing a complex and varied workload. Occupying this fast-paced role which demands high level problem solving, critical thinking and organisational skills, the nature of my work and achievements as a Detective Constable include: ● Leadership: Selected to be the Officer in Charge of two murder investigations. This role of significant responsibility involved creating investigation strategies, effective leadership and direction of the investigation team, family liaison, media communications, and working in collaboration with partners including Barristers, and the Crown Prosecution Service to bring the offenders to justice. ● Investigation management: Leading investigations into serious crimes. Taking ownership for cases, building case files, and keeping actions on course until case closure. ● Risk management: Completing risk assessments, I regularly review risk during each investigation, making changes where needed to safeguard victims and protect the public from harm. ● Intelligence: Gathering and analysing intelligence and evidence from a range of open and closed sources to progress investigations, I handle large data sets and volumes of exhibits with accuracy and in line with rigorous regulations – helping to bring offenders to justice in court. ● Communication: Interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects, (many of whom are vulnerable) and applying a sensitive, empathetic and versatile communication style to build trust, put them at ease and elicit information. Communicating with colleagues up to senior level, I also deliver team briefings and presentations, and testify in court. ● Organisation: Managing large volumes of work against a backdrop of a national shortage of Detectives, I plan effectively and prioritise tasks which has helped me to achieve deadlines and deliver results. -
