I initially trained as an inorganic chemist (under Prof. Sally Brooker), where I had excellent training in small molecule X-ray crystallography. I then moved on to synthetic organic chemistry in the carbohydrate chemistry team at Industrial Research Limited (under the leadership of Prof. Richard Furneaux). I then had a three year postdoc where I skilled up in enzymology, enzymatic transition-state analysis and protein crystallography at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York (under Prof. Vern Schramm and Prof. Steve Almo). I then returned to the carbohydrate chemistry team, with it's new name: the Ferrier Research Institute (now part of Victoria University of Wellington). I am now studying enzyme transition states using an NMR-based approach, and using that information to design and synthesise potent enzyme inhibitors.In addition, I have a background in computer science and basic electrical engineering.Experience:- Organic and inorganic synthetic chemistry- Single crystal X-ray crystallography (small molecule and protein)- Automated column chromatography systems- HPLC/FPLC- Design, build and programming of bespoke devices, generally for chemistry applications- Electronic lab book management
