Frequently works with energized high voltage lines, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions. Performs the installation, maintenance and repair work on low and high voltage lines. Installs poles, transformers and other auxiliary equipment. Tests voltage loads on transformers. Makes adjustments to transformers for the required voltage. Installs transformers and places into operation. Locates system faults and makes repairs in primary and secondary lines. Replaces broken or faulty equipment on poles and in underground equipment. Performs work on energized lines using hot sticks or rubber gloves. Stock trucks with required material, supplies and tools. Cleans and repairs tools regularly. Operates line truck and associated equipment. Performs related work as required. May be required to be on standby for trouble calls outside of normal working hours. Must be available to respond immediately following storm events and other emergencies impacting the electric system. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electric line work. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and the proper safety precautions. Considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electric distribution systems. Knowledge of first aid, including artificial respiration. Ability and willingness to climb poles and to work among high-tension wires, exercising proper safety precautions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions quickly and accurately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees. Ability to meet physical requirements necessary for climbing poles and performing manual tasks in line work.
