Australia And New Zealand

Global Merger between Quaker Chemical and Houghton Chemical was completed in September 2019. Australia saw the merger of Quaker Chemical Australasia P/L with Houghton International P/L with new combined head office in Melbourne. The combination doubled the size of the organisation in Australia and New Zealand in terms of people and revenue and increased the customer base and complexity of both organisations.The global merger utilised a matrix structure with function and reporting grouped in regional vertical functions and horizontal local working groups. As Manager EHSQ Commercial Services for the combined Quaker Houghton Australian & New Zealand operations I worked alongside the ANZ commercial, technical & operations teams providing EHS & QMS support & functions for all work outside the Melbourne Manufacturing Site and reported to the Asia Pacific (APAC) Director of EHS based in China. For all non Melbourne work locations this required the ongoing management, further development and implementation of Quaker's Safety Management System (SMS) across a wider combined scope. It also required the integration of corporate policies, processes and system into the combined EHS & QMS system for ANZ operations.My role also provided management of the QA ISO 9001 systems for the combined Quaker Houghton ANZ operations, including the Melbourne manufacturing site & head office that will required the merging of the two organisations EHSQ systems to a single system under ISO 9001 - ISO 14001 - ISO 45001.

Returned back with Quaker and for past 8 years I have primarily been project managing new equipment design, build, install and commissioning process equipment projects for our Australian longwall fluid mining business. Quaker is a leading fluid & equipment supplier for underground coal longwall mining operations. Engineering projects require complete project management application and documentation, including compliance, risk assessment & introduction to site documentation for the equipment, project installation & commissioning documentation & management, equipment operation, isolation & maintenance manual creation and customer operations training and safe work systems for ongoing Quaker service to the mines.When not in project, I have worked on creating and implementing Quaker's Safety Management System to meet our WHS obligations, support our work activities on customer sites and to achieve customer work pre-qualification. SMS Creation and implementation has required liaison, consultation education and awareness training with Quaker's management team, sales & service personnel and contractors, and customers. Quaker's SMS scope covers our site and service work in over 20 locations across many states and NZ on mines, steel plants, manufacturing plants, naval ships & facilities and cold store distribution centers. The naval & cold store work areas supporting Quaker's surface coating technologies, products and application services in those industry areas. Quaker is a leading supplier of specialty coatings to Navy in US, UK & Australia through our wholly owned EPMAR subsidiary. The Australian market activities with the Royal Australian Navy was achieved soon after my return to Quaker leveraged off my experience and contacts while at Forgacs. Quaker is the OEM interior surface coating provider and applicator for the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyers.

2008 - 2010 Worked with Forgacs to develop an engineering service operation within the Sydney naval ship engineering business. Focused on water, waste water, infrastructure and process engineering projects. Won projects with Eraring Energy, Hunter Water, Railcorp & RTA. Project Managed several of these. 2010 - 2011 Corporate strategic realignment focused back on Navy defence sector following major success in winning block manufacture for new Air Warfare Destroyers. Re-aligned to BDM for defence opportunities including development of RAN move to batching contracts for vessel classes. Took on project roles of Safety Officer for HMAS Tobruk extended maintenance availability and Production Manager for HMAS Manoora extended maintenance availability.
