Collaborative effort on an unprecedented scale to accelerate restoration of 1.2 million acres in 30 years. This will be done by a combination of logging and timber thinning methods, the reinvention of small timber industry, and the return of fire as a management tool. The NEPA process with split this into two phases, both record-setting in scale. Stand treatments will go from roughly 15,000 acres treated annually to 50,000 acres.Stakeholders liaise between 4FRI, USFS, and home organization or agency. They participate in several working groups or committees that deal with political issues, public issues, environmental, industrial, and economic issues. Many aspects reveal technical issues that are new, due largely to the never-before-seen scale of the project.

Plan and conduct monthly meetings; manage grants for surveys, treatments, and plans; initiate and conduct workshops, conduct weed biocontrol and mechanical control projects, write weed plans, review various applications and NEPA docs, conduct agency training in Weed ID, weed biology, and control methods. Cooperate with state, county and municipal departments on plans, regulations, and enforcement. Recruit new members and volunteers to the SFPWMA.After retiring as Coordinator, I remain as consultant for management, financial, and technical aspects of the Weed Management Area.

This consists of all Consolidated Weed Management Areas in the region of Northern Arizona, or about six WMA's. Coordinator maintains mailing list, distributes news and info, and plans one or two meetings and/or field trips annually. Typically, a field trip would tour a fire restoration or weed abatement location for lessons learned.

GFFP is a collaboration of agencies and academics, started in about 2000, to combine restoration of fire-adapted Ponderosa forests surrounding Flagstaff, and to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires in the same area. GFFP developed and maintains a Community Wildfire Protection Plan, provides education and outreach to those living in the Wildland-Urban Interface, has developed standards of treatment and assessment protocols, sponsors research in smallwood technology, wood stocks availability, wildlife response, socioeconomics (like smoke impacts) and felling technology, distributes grants to landowners for thinning, and much more.

Planned and implemented annual conference and continuing education courses for professionals in weed abatement or management fields, such as herbicide applicators. Recruited speakers and technical papers and posters.

Winemaker for a bespoke wine label. Entire staff consisted of investor-volunteers. Capacity about 120 cases/yr. Residual assets became Three Arches Winery of Cupertino. Specialized in Zinfandels from Amador County, CA.

Taught Computer Architecture extended version w/lab. Since textbooks were dated and computer lab unavailable, on two weeks notice I obtained current texts from local bookstores, created new curriculum, and cobbled a lab from multiple PC's using different operating systems.

An AF career is very hard to describe and could be separated into several jobs.In early years I was a Program Control chart-maker, scheduler and contracts manager. Also managed international agreements for overseas facilities. Then worked on ground system development. Moved into conducting satellite ops and testing. I became a test & integration division chief for a new $2B (1986 dollars) program, and team leader for orbital physics and astrodynamics. Established the National Testbed (space-ground simulator). Deputy/Acting Commander at Thule Tracking Station, Greenland. During the busiest one-year period in station history, built new antenna, office building, technical building, and new logistics building, and installed and tested new tracking systems. Continued to integrate new systems worldwide, including Australia, Norway, United Kingdom, Seychelles, Guam,5 states, China, Kenya, Greenland, Diego Garcia, shipboard and other locations.In later career, helped establish new Consolidated Spacecraft Test Center, whose mission was to provide mission control centers and staff for all space missions in the free world except NASA. First supporting operations of worldwide tracking and communications facilities, and subsequently as Director of Resource Management for the test center. Responsible for $150M (1994 dollars) operating budget and 800 civilians. Civilian equivalent would be CFO, CIO, and most of COO combined. Managed human resources, data processing, contract management, configuration control, purchasing, and computer resources. Established and created computer-on-every-desk environment. Created computer training program that became a commercial industry in co-located Silicon Valley. Selected a start-up company called "CISCO" to develop bridge and route data between multiple platforms worldwide. This became another major commercial industry.When the CSTC transitioned from Systems Command to Space Command, I took an early retirement offer and retired a Major.
