The team of licensed builders, engineers, and draftsmen can design and build clients structures from concept to completion.My General Manager role was newly created to support the Managing Director as the company was experiencing unprecedented growth.I was instrumental in refining health and safety systems to gain tertiary WSMP accreditation, developed quality management systems to reduce rework and improve project profitability, optimised workshop manufacturing practices using lean and 5S principles, refined procurement and tendering processes to maximise gross margins, improved HR procedures including the development of comprehensive job descriptions for all staff, and streamlined many other company systems and procedures to gain operational efficiencies.

Texco Steel is a structural steel engineering firm and is part of the privately owned Texco group of companies which has been operating for 30+ years with a combined staff of 140.My General Manager role was responsible for strategic planning and annual budgets; financial management and reporting; business development; supplier relationship and contract management; marketing, health & safety and quality management; and full human resource and employment relations functions.My key achievements included the development of 1, 5 and 10 year diversification business plans to ensure sustainability of the company post earthquake rebuild, with successful diversification of the company from 95% construction industry sales to 70% within 3 years, ahead of progress towards targeted 60% within 5 years.Other achievements include development of company core values, purpose and brand promise; successful change in company culture to a people focused approach through positive attitudes and supportive leadership; development of strategic HR plans; implementation of systems to continuously monitor resources and costs to budget; establishment of a complete health & safety system in line with ACC Tertiary level WSMP requirements and championing a change in culture of health and safety including a 500% improvement in reporting and investigation of incidents.

Along with the usual management and leadership responsibilities, I was also responsible for international sales and marketing, trade union wage negotiations of collective employment agreements and Farra also introduced me to one of my passions - health & safety management.Key achievements at Farra include; improvement of bottom line of division by 200% within three years and recording the highest net profit on record for the division within five years of management; development and implementation of structured tendering procedures; and proactively driving cost saving initiatives across the Farra Group on material and service supply contracts.
