The Center for Island Climate Adaptation and Policy (ICAP) facilitates a sustainable, climate-conscious future for Hawaii, the Pacific, and global island communities. Located at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, ICAP serves as a focal point for climate expertise. It connects individuals and institutions to the rich climate knowledge housed at the University. Through research, collaboration, and outreach, ICAP gives communities the information and tools to develop sound adaptive strategies. ICAP is a University of Hawaii Sea Grant Center of Excellence in partnership with the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, the Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge, and the College of Arts and Sciences. The primary purpose of the IEK Research Specialist is to:- Conduct research into Hawaiian language and/or other sources of indigenous knowledge related to climate adaptation and water resource management.- Assist with stakeholder engagement (meetings and workshops) and conduct in-depth stakeholder interviews.- Prepare decision support tools and publications.

The duties of the Senior Conservation Program Manager include:- Program Management: Prepared and reported on grants, implemented projects, built partnerships, networked with agencies, and supervised 7 employees.- Strategic Planning: Developed a comprehensive Climate Change Strategy to complement the PCS 2010-2015 Strategic Plan. - Project Design/Management: Managed a team of 15 community-based conservationists to conduct a baseline inventory of approximately 230 sq. km. of coral reef systems.- Curriculum Design/Development: Designed and managed a partnership for the development and implementation of the Koror State Tour Guide Certification Program. - Donor Relations: Choreographed and coordinated workshops/naturalist tours for groups such as the United States Coral Reef Task Force, NOAA, The Nature Conservancy, Pew Charitable Trust, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Dow Chemical, Morita Corporation, Gitga’at First Nation, Koç Holdings, Society for the Conservation of Reef Fish Aggregations and Bird Life International.- International Representation: International Marine Protected Area Congress (IMPAC1), Geelong, Australia. Responsible for the coordination of the Government of Spain’s Agency of International Collaboration, Palau’s national government, state governments, NGOs and local communities for sustainable livelihood development projects and marine biodiversity conservation.The project Empowering Local Communities to Promote, Enhance and Protect Marine Biodiversity supports and builds on existing national efforts to protect Palau’s marine biodiversity and fulfill obligations under the Convention on Biodiversity. These national efforts include implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan and the Palau Protected Areas Network (PAN). The project made significant contributions towards filling information gaps, developing standardized community-based monitoring protocols, building community capacity for marine resource-use and MPA management planning and implementation, and promoting alternative community-based sustainable business enterprises.

Kayak Adventures Worldwide exposes and educates the general public about Alaska’s fragile wilderness environment, what we all can do to preserve it, and the sport of kayaking as a means of exploration.As A Green Star Award Recipient, we also have adopted their policy to improve environmental quality through wise business decisions. These include conserving energy, reducing or eliminating waste, recycling, and properly disposing of any remaining waste. We believe that our responsibility to prevent pollution is compatible with successful business objectives. Improving our productivity, efficiency, and materials handling requires regular review of operations. Our organization is actively working to achieve and maintain Green Star Standards and to be a model for other organizations and our community.As Naturalist Field Guide, led daily and overnight kayak trips into the Kenai Fjords National Park and volunteered at the Alaska Sea Life Center as a Docent and Graphic Designer.

Coral Reef Research Foundation was founded in 1991 by a group of marine biologists as a vehicle to increase our understanding of the species, dynamics and interrelationships of marine environments and their relationship to man. As such we do both basic and applied marine research, with special emphasis on species diversity work, collection for biomedical screening, environmental monitoring, reef fish spawning biology, and innovative development of new techniques for marine research work. Our research programs are oriented towards the following areas, (1) dynamics of the marine environment as it relates to conservation decisions, (2) limits of species diversity, community distribution and biogeography, and (3) monitoring with respect to short to long-term environmental and climate changes. As Research Assistant, monitored endemic jellyfish populations in their marine lake habitats and reef fish spawning aggregation sites. Work included driving boats, collecting data, design and application of collection techniques, laboratory work, data analysis and final reporting.

As Dive Deck Manager / PADI Instructor, I was responsible for coordinating daily scuba diving activities of up to 20 guests. Total days at sea: 325. Operated and maintained two 400hp jet boats, served as night watchman at the helm, conducted environmental lectures, taught video and photography techniques and conducted various customer service activities. Choreographed extended exploratory expeditions to remote islands and atolls.
