About Scott Kulp
My name is Scott Kulp, and I am the Principal Computational Scientist and Senior Developer at Climate Central in Princeton, NJ. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Computational Biomedicine Imaging and Modeling Center (CBIM) in Rutgers University. I received an M.S. in Computer Science from Rutgers in 2010, and I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ursinus College in 2008 with a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics.At Climate Central, I am the technical lead on the FloodVision program, where we collect vehicular video, lidar, and gps data and fuse them with machine learning to generate science-based visualizations of coastal flooding projections. I also lead development of CoastalDEM, a high-accuracy global digital elevation model that uses machine learning to refine elevation estimates. In the Sea Level Rise program, we perform highly detailed and computationally intensive analysis on the potential effects of sea level rise and storm surges on coastal communities. At Rutgers, I worked with Dimitris Metaxas to simulate blood flow through the heart. At Ursinus, I worked with April Kontostathis on Information Retrieval projects in the context of legal document retrieval. I have also completed several research internships at the Department of Defense in Fort Meade, MD.
