My PhD programme explored the fate, effects, and risk of polymer degradation products in the environment. Using outdoor microcosms to study polymer degradation including: * chemical analytical methods to quantify the formation of degradation products (GC-MS, LC-TOF-MS, and nanoparticle tracking analysis), * changes in surface chemical functionality (FTIR), and * data analysis techniques to assess degradation kinetics. In addition, laboratory studies were conducted to using ecotoxicology methods (e.g. acute and chronic testing daphnia, chironomids, and lemna) combined with dose-response modelling.
