He has modeled reservoirs using compositional as well as black-oil simulators for a displacement process from an undersaturated-oil waterflood to a miscible water-alternating-gas (WAG) process. McGregor has built and simulated reservoir models that have long production histories (in excess of 50 years). He has built and simulated finely gridded element models for WAG pilot design and for upscaling into full-field reservoir models Recently, McGregor has been working with clients to design and optimize well-performance operations from newly discovered fields to mature waterflood developments. McGregor has extensive knowledge of several producing basins in Algeria, the Western Siberia Basin in Russia, and the Pre-Caspian Basin in Kazakhstan. His first reservoir model study was a waterflood project in 1986 within the Illizi Basin of Algeria. McGregor has been involved with the designing and matching WAG pilots within the Berkine and Hassi Messaoud Basins. McGregor has co-authored two SPE papers that describe a novel technique of matching compositional simulation results to cased-hole measurement in an observation well for a WAG pilot. McGregor has worked for several producing associations within Western Siberia, reviewing numerous field development plans and helping improve the simulation methodology for waterflood management. He has worked many fields across Kazakhstan to improve oil recovery through application of best operating practices and reservoir management.
