My most recent role has been as a Network Pre-Sales Consultant working closely with account managers and suppliers to identify new opportunities, provide technical governance and assist in securing business. Focus is almost predominately on Cisco technologies providing support to the broader field and desk based sales function throughout the UK covering all solution categories including: Routing, Switching, Wireless, Security, Video, Compute and Unified Communications.

Moved internally from an application development role to a dedicated pre-sales function where I have assumed responsibility for a number of various role types from generalist technology consultant, sector specific subject matter expert (Education), Product Manager and most recently networking.Alfred McAlpine was aquired by Carillion, the IT Services business was then sold to Capita.

Software consultant focused on Systems Integration projects and Microsoft technologies. Progressed in organisation to role of dedicated Pre-Sales consultant.

Progressed through positions from Database manager to IT Consultant to Software Development Manager. Focusing on provision of Microsoft solutions and bespoke software development to the SME market.Managed a team of software developers in the production of two commercial software applications and bespoke development work. Involved with both products from inception through to implementation. Worked with prospective clients to define requirements, directors to secure funding, marketing on seminar programs/product literature and sales staff on pre-sales customer meetings and presentations. Also assisted sales staff on tender/bid responses for application development work.Identified and managed the introduction of Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server to the company’s portfolio of products and worked with Microsoft sales representatives to launch one of the UK’s first partner seminar programs on the product.Prior to this the company was part of a group of companies (ISI Group plc) and my duties included managing the shared business applications, providing software/development support and expert advice to the group companies that included software development, consultancy and infrastructure specialists. At this point three of the five group companies were in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 list.ISI Group spun out of DataCAD and then launched McLaren Consulting and CADspace amongst others. Now part of TSG Group.

Member of a business team providing IT support and advice to various council departments. Responsibility for project managing numerous projects including in-house development, equipment procurement / installation and tendering. Developed and introduced programming / design standards into team. Worked with business managers and suppliers on all stages from defining specification of requirements through to system rollout and support.

Bell College is now University of West Of ScotlandResponsibility for developing software applications for in-house use and also for external companies through the college’s commercial arm. External activities included analysis, design, implementation and training.Responsible for administration of the college network and management applications, this encompassed a variety of operating systems, platforms and applications such as library and student record systems. Duties included providing support to all network users (staff and students), supervision of data preparation staff and the scheduling of workload.Played a leading role in the development of the college network services that included Electronic Mail, WWW, Newsgroups, Directory Services and Intranet. Presented new applications to the management team and provided training to end-users.

College placement as part of a HND course. Duties covered support of database systems and implementation and documentation of a new blood banking system.
