In my role, I brought a vision to redesign services of the libraries on three campuses, including two medical school libraries – an allopathic and an osteopathic. The libraries transitioned from a focus on print-based collections to one that was centered on electronic resources. We looked at spaces that had been focused on warehousing collections and identified programming and space redesign options that were focused on 21st Century student needs. A key focus was the creation of a Digital Scholarship Center, working with students and faculty in the creation of knowledge. We looked at strategies for our responsibilities in Rowan’s newly designated role as a New Jersey research university through an institutional repository and in partnering with faculty and the Division of University Research in creating an improved research infrastructure.

As the director of two libraries located 35 miles apart I was responsible for planning and establishing policies, operations, and services. I worked closely with deans and administrators on the two campuses in terms of campus strategic planning. I developed key partnerships with other units on campus, disability resources, writing center, in the provision of services to students. I worked closely with campus police to ensure a safe environment for staff and students. I hired, supervised, mentored, evaluated, and terminated library staff and interns; facilitated and ensured effective communication. Worked with the University Librarian and managed a number of key projects such as LibQUAL.

As the Associate University librarian, I led a number of key projects including the implementation of an institutional repository and discovery system fir library resources. I managed the 218,000 sq. ft. facility including the automated material retrieval system, disaster and emergency plans. I supervised staff and managed personnel issues for thirty-five staff across three unions. I worked closely with library faculty on projects.

I led and participated in the design of DALNET’s role as the Information Gateway for southeast Michigan, incorporating library catalogs, digital images, and non-traditional databases. DALNET is a multi-type library consortium operating in the three county metro-Detroit region. Its twenty plus members at over seventy sites are comprised of academic, public, museum, and special libraries. I assisted with marketing and outreach efforts and the successful recruitment of five new members; provided project management services to new members for their data migration and provided training overview to new Project Managers. Worked with member libraries staff and directors in the coordination of ongoing plans and activities.

Sought creative opportunities for library computing and network systems that expanded and improved access to information for users and kept the Boston College Libraries on the cutting edge of technologyEstablished a customer-service based approach for the delivery of Systems Office services. Participated in capital budget planning and coordinated the evaluation, ordering, and distribution of equipment and software throughout the libraries. Worked with colleagues in the Boston Library Consortium on a variety of issues including a shared storage facility and state-wide interlibrary loan system.

Headed the automated systems department in the Libraries. Oversaw the installation of one of the first local area networks on campus and the increased utilization of desk-top computing. Led the conversion from one library system platform to another.
