Prior to joining Smart City Media Scott had been the Director of Sustainability Initiatives for the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID), where, he initiated and led DowntownDC EcoDistrict. Established on Earth Day 2011, the EcoDistrict established a collaborative framework for the integration of sustainability and smart city initiatives for a 138 block area in the heart of Washington DC, across 90+ million sqft of built environment.Scott’s responsibilities included serving as the private sector representative for the District of Columbia’s commitment to the Better Buildings Challenge, co-producing the annual Building Energy Summits, and developing the Metro Washington, DC Greenprint Performance Reports with the ULI Greenprint Center. Scott also served as a member of the Greenbuild 2015 Host Committee, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Climate, Energy, and Environment Policy Committee, the District of Columbia’s Building Energy Performance taskforce,Scott has presented nationally and internationally regarding district scale integration of sustainability and technology for the International Downtown Association, National Institute of Standards and Technologies, US DOE, USGBC, Green America, ULI Leadership Institute, Fulbright Scholars, Alliance to Save Energy, World Resource Institute, and for universities such as American, Catholic, Georgetown, George Washington, NYU and Howard.Prior to joining the DowntownDC BID, Scott organized the 14th & U Street ‘s community’s participation in the inaugural DC Main Streets program. He served as the founding Executive Director of the 14th & U Main Street Initiative from 2002-6, laying the foundation for the sustainable growth of the neighborhood and its recognition by the American Planning Association, as one of their Great Places in America in 2011.
