As a US Army Veteran of 6 years, I have the discipline and the ethics to achieve goals for myself and my organization. After an honorable discharge, I was in law enforcement for 25 years before moving onto working as an Executive Director of a 4 County Prevention Non-profit, with management of local, state and federal grant funding and strategies. I worked in 14 school districts and 2 college campus promoting prevention of risky behaviors. Before leaving the 501 (c) 3 I was offered a position to work in 16 counties in southeast Nebraska working with communities and for school districts in the Behavioral Health realm. I was able to work in many schools and communities preventing substance use and building on protective factors. I lead several large events that included 900 students in social events. I was trained in Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid. I presented suicide prevention Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) to over 6000 individuals over the course of a 4 year period.I was offered the position as the Emergency Operations Specialist for the Nebraska Department of Education. I get the opportunity to work with 244 public and 110 non-public schools in Nebraska developing their safety plans for their district and communities. I am the trainer that presents this concept and provide on-going assistance for their comprehensive plan. With over 350 total school districts in Nebraska, I facilitate these discussions, provide logistics with all types of partnerships and trainings. Building partnerships among leaders is what I do. These partnerships include schools, law enforcement, emergency managers, and fire/rescue agencies. To date I have trained 283 school systems on their Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). I provide continued technical assistance in developing and modifying schools EOP.
