Profile bio

About Scott Walz

I have worked for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community since 1998. I started as a Water Resources Specialist/Hydrologist where I worked on a wide variety of projects including wellhead protection, water quality sampling, drainage analysis, erosion control, the SMSC MS4 permit, community education, and grant writing and management. When I was promoted to Water Resource Specialist I managed a crew of 4. While overseeing and participating in my previous duties my role expanded to include plan review, permit writing, LID proponent, wetland research, lake and stream restoration, and rain garden design. I also managed staff that grew native plants for use in local gardens and green roofs.I currently oversee the conservation, research and restoration of the aquatic and terrestrial areas of the lands and waters owned by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Much of the work we do now involves restoring and managing the natural resources on Community lands. Overseeing the planting of prairie or managing with fire, removing aquatic and terrestrial invasive species, restoring degraded systems, communicating with state and federal agencies and departments, representing the SMSC on technical groups, working with other tribes, as well as grant writing and management are what occupies me most days.

Listed skills include Water Quality, Gis, Sampling, Hydrology, and 20 others.
