Designed and implemented load, stress, and endurance tests for a network services and web hosting company with over 3 million customers.Performed load testing, stress testing, and endurance testing in support of web hosting, email, domain name purchasing, e-commerce, web service APIs, social networking, online website building and publishing tools, smart phone applications, Siebel CRM, and help desk products, as well as database and application server services.Developed test profiles by gathering and defining customer volume and hardware load test requirements with product designers, engineers, and marketing staff.Performed capacity planning for new products by running stress tests on proposed hardware in laboratory environments and using past performance profiles and hardware configurations to extrapolate the performance of new systems and identify hardware requirements. Wrote test scripts in C using HP Loadrunner and ran load tests daily. Wrote load test result reports using HP Loadrunner and custom developed reporting tools, which detailed performance problems for developers and management, and included analysis of user response times, hardware usage, database queries, load balancers, and API calls. These reports were published to a custom built internal website allowing easy access to current and past reports, as well as automated comparisons of performance between software versions. Configured hardware monitoring and reporting for Windows and Linux servers using HP Sitescope, HP Loadrunner, and standard unix and Windows tools. Wrote a custom SMTP, IMAP, and POP email testing tool in Perl for a high throughput stress test in support of a new email infrastructure. Later migrated this testing to the open source load testing tool Apache Jmeter.Increased the number of customer e-commerce websites that could be hosted on a single server by 50%.

Designed and implemented load and stress tests for the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security's information technology systems on behalf of a government contractor. Designed, developed and implemented the company’s first performance testing and reporting processes, which included creating a testing laboratory, configuring laboratory hardware and software, and delivering training on testing to developers and database administrators while integrating testing into workflows. Using HP Loadrunner, created, ran, and analyzed load and stress tests of the United States Department of State's SQL Server based Travel Document Issuance System. This mission critical high availability system is used to create over 10 million United States passports per year. Identified defects with database replication, database indexes, database deadlocks, slow stored procedures, and hardware misconfigurations before system deployment. Traveled to Department of State facilities located in the United States to perform on site testing and verification of new software and hardware installations. Stress tested the system used by the Department of State to electronically sign passports, which was successfully rolled out worldwide in 2006 and is used today to digitally sign and verify all United States passports. Wrote weekly and as needed reports on test results for developers, database administrators, and management.Load tested a web-based diplomatic security system, which increased system speed and eliminated user complaints. Wrote SQL scripts to add test data to databases and modify existing data with SQL Plus.
