About Scott Atherton

Graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Finance degree from the McCombs School of Business in December 2015. I currently work as a Business Operations Analyst for the F-35 Program at Lockheed Martin and have been in this role since Nov 2017. I spent the first 20 months at LM as a Financial Analyst at Lockheed Martin and spent the 2015 summer as a Demand Planning intern at Academy Sports + Outdoors' corporate office. Maximizing efficiency drives me day after day and interacting with people in a business setting is what lead me to Finance. I love analyzing data and relying on historic trends to help predict the future or find a way to do something better. Everyday I strive to live a lifestyle parallel to that of the high-profiled UT alumni before me: To Change the World. I'd love the opportunity to 'Change the World' with your company and share my passion of numbers and analysis with you. Being a Finance guy, I not only love analyzing numbers but possess the ability to present those findings in a business setting.

Scott Atherton Work Experience Details
  • Lockheed Martin
Senior Financial Analyst; Finance Team Lead
Lockheed Martin Jan 2022 - Present
    Fort Worth, Texas, United States
I moved from the F-35 Program Management role in January 2022 to be a Cost Integrator/Sr Financial Analyst on the F-35 Advanced Development Program. In 18 months, I coordinated monthly customer financial reports for three development contracts after thorough cost, status and schedule analyses with Control Account and Program Managers. I adapted our monthly business rhythm and tempo to include inputs and efforts tied to two $65M+ budget baseline awards and had a large mentorship role in two additional rebaseline efforts. I was assigned to be a mentor for four new employees' growth and knowledge development which helped me get a promotion within team to Financial Lead in August 2023. Currently as a Financial Lead I oversee the financial earned value reporting for the largest contract our team manages while leading the monthly reporting efforts for a team of 8 analysts. Every month it's my responsibility to ensure high quality, timely deliveries of not just my contract but the dozen contracts they manage as well.
  • Lockheed Martin
    Program Management Office Analyst
    Lockheed Martin May 2019 - Jan 2022
Business Operations/Management Analyst for the F-35 Program. Analyze cost, budget, and earned value metrics tied to the program. Always looking for a way to do tasks more efficiently and helping other groups carry the load on major projects that benefit the company.
  • Lockheed Martin
    Business Management Analyst
    Lockheed Martin Nov 2017 - May 2019
My 2nd role at Lockheed Martin was working as a Financial Analyst for the F-35 Business Management team. I was responsible for tracking EAC, BAC, and other EV metrics across the early F-35 Production Contracts. With these contracts near the end of their production lives, I also did a lot of tasks with cleanup, contract reconciling, and cost corrections/closeouts. It was a great role for me because it allowed me to learn a lot about the program while also getting a feel for EV metrics, reporting and financial metrics.
  • Lockheed Martin
    Cost Accountant
    Lockheed Martin Feb 2016 - Nov 2017
My first role at Lockheed was a Financial Analyst on the Cost Accounting team at Lockheed Martin. There, I was responsible for all things dealing with Workers Compensation, Prepaid Insurance accounts, JSF Allocations and Material Inventory Costs. In addition, I created several projects that have increased efficiency during our busiest times and worked on several meaningful and impactful assignments
  • The University Of Texas At Arlington
    Student
The University Of Texas At Arlington Aug 2019 - Aug 2021
    Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
While working at Lockheed Martin full-time, I earned my MBA in General Business from the University of Texas in Arlington's Fort Worth Co-Hort Program without any skippage in full time work status. Through the process of obtaining my MBA, I further developed my management, people, and financial modeling skills which has helped tremendously in my Lockheed career.
  • The University Of Texas At Austin
    Student
The University Of Texas At Austin Aug 2012 - Dec 2015
    Austin, Texas Area
Going to UT allowed me to see the kind of person I want to be and definitely "Changed the World" in my life. At UT, I attended the McCombs School of Business where I graduated in 3.5 years with a Finance degree focusing specifically on Investment Management. While at UT, my knowledge and skills with Excel grew to a high level, my ability to lead others expanded through being the President of a religious student organization, and I learned how much of an extrovert I really am. Finance best fit my style of being able to analyze data and then be able to present it to others and allows me to work with people and data.
  • Academy Sports + Outdoors
    Demand Planner
    Academy Sports + Outdoors Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
Last summer, I was a Demand Planning Intern for Academy Sports + Outdoors at their corporate office in Katy, Tx. At Academy, I was given a inventory-related project where I analyzed a specific group of 20 items across all sections of Academy. While conducting research in order to find areas of improvement, I analyzed the past 3 months of sales, the truck delivery schedules, forecasting to find peaks/valleys of sales, and worked some with Space planning to see how much space was allocated for each item. Over the course of the 10-week internship, I presented 5 recommendations for Academy going forward as they become a bigger company each year. These recommendations maximized efficiency of the inventory, helped save costs by making truck shipments more structured, and would have freed up space in the back parts of stores to help the store managers. After I left in August, my ideas were tested on other stores and other items and continue to help Academy long after my departure.
  • Atherton Irrigation
    Irrigation Technician
    Atherton Irrigation Apr 2008 - Aug 2012
I was in charge of the Financial side of my dad and I's company where I would calculate profits, inventory, costs, and analyze trends in scheduling and data to help our business be more profitable. When I worked with my dad in the yard, I would help calculate almost anything. If we were installing, I would calculate pipe size, gallons per minute necessary, nozzle size, spray radius, arc length, etc. The same applied for repairs as well. I had no problem getting dirty and working and still helping determine what was best for the customer when installing/repairing a system. From Year 1 to Year 2, I helped our company grow by 175% in Revenues and optimized our days so we could be the most efficient with our customers. We had an increase in customers from year 2 to year 3 of 40% but drive time only increased by 20%.
