About Scott Benitez

I am deeply versed and knowledgeable in Oracle Applications E-Business Suite (EBS) and Oracle Database technologies for large-scale enterprises as well as the SMB marketplace. I currently hold Oracle Certified Professional certification status in both Oracle Database Administration (v. 7.3, 8.0, 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g, and 12c) and Oracle Applications Database Administration (v. 11i and R12). I’ve been invited to speak at several user groups across the country on several topics related to Oracle database and virtualization, including cloud hosting. I have lead several Oracle implementations, upgrades, and migrations for both the EBS applications and database technologies, drawing on years of experience and training from various industries including manufacturing, defense, transportation, and consulting services. In addition, I excel at performance tuning, backup and recovery, and enterprise-wide solutions and statistics gathering for analysis, providing customized service based on the workload and client needs.

Listed skills include Oracle E Business Suite, Oracle Rac, Oracle, Oracle Applications, and 46 others.

Practice Manager - Ims/Cloud Services

Current

Acton, Ma, Us

As part of the acquisition, I was promoted to MSP Practice Manager, leading a team of talented professionals I'd worked with for years.Part of my job in the merger was to evaluate and determine how best to move our existing support and ticketing systems, as well as our processes/procedures, into the new model. Crucial to that was ensuring our team was able to put boots on the ground almost immediately with no interruption to our customers.Since then, I've expanded my duties - taking my over 30 years of IT and industry experience (and love for checklists! - See USAF below) and help shape teams to be efficient and inspired. I have been instrumental in rolling out new standards, taking the best of our combined teams, and implementing these changes across our entire crew of over 250 people. Everything from new documentation and reporting templates, along with source-of-truth data integrations; to working with DEVOPS to develop a gold-standard for monitoring and automation procedures. (One template to rule them. One template to find them. One template to run them...and in our alerts bind them - sorry Mr. Tolkien)While I have teams and customers that I manage, I'm routinely brought into other projects and customers to "give the warm fuzzies". I excel at taking a troubled customer, putting them at ease while controlling the narrative, and putting together a tactical plan to get us through the issue and back online quickly. I then work with the teams to not only find the root of the problem, whether it technical or personnel, and put together a strategy. While I miss some of the technical - I do think I've found my calling. To me, being able to still be involved in a technical issue (although I don't get to code anymore), break it down for an audience, and guide associates to be the best they can be (I should have said Aim Higher...more Air Force-y)...What more can I ask for (except SWAG - I still wear free 'Conference' shirts!)

Oct 2019 - Present

Sr. Oracle Applications Dba Consultant

Smartdog Services

SmartDog Services was a premier Oracle EBS Managed Services and Consultation business, as well as a host of other products and services. One of our premier products was our BloodHound CEMLI object collection/analyzer that helped make Oracle database and Oracle EBS upgrades and migrations a LOT easier. In addition to taking care of my own cadre of customers located throughout the world, I was also our MSP Team Lead - working with a crew of over 20 people both on and offshore. SmartDog was bought back in Oct, 2019 by Apps Associates, and I was asked to stay on, along with our incredible team, and promoted to Practice Manager.

With all the Googliness going on, who can say...But in all honesty - this is great job, at a great company, in a great location, with great people, and interesting work...And they feed us too!I'm currently in the Database Engineering Department and responsible for the day-to-day operations and production support of Google's Oracle E-Business Suite and peripheral database systems, such as Hyperion, Vertex, and ASCP. I also am one of the few to cross over into their core Oracle Database systems, handling technologies such as Oracle Streams, Oracle DataGuard, OID, OAM, SOA, and WebLogic. I've also been involved with many projects while at Google, one of the largest being the complete hardware swap-out of all Oracle Database and E-Business Suite systems. During this, we not only migrated to 11gR2 RAC and ASM, we introduced all new testing, backup, fail-over, and patching procedures. It really is an interesting place to work. Some of the best and brightest people are working there and I get to interact with them on a daily basis.

Oracle Database and E-Business Suite Administration and Consulting Services.I was responsible for customer upgrade and implementation projects, while also serving as the main US Managed Services Engineer for our follow-the-sun support model.

DARC Corporation is an Oracle E-Business Suite Consulting firm specializing in full lifecycle support and implementations. In business for over 20 years, they’re known as one of the first firms specializing in Oracle Applications. We provided full consulting services including long-term project work, staffing, remote services, on-site support, and training. It was a small firm of highly-trained, highly-experienced consultants.

Feb 2007 - Jan 2013

Sr. Oracle Applications Dba

Attends Health Care is a leader in manufacturing medical adult incontinence products – which is a nice way to say we made big diapers. I was responsible for their Oracle Oracle EBS and Database systems to support their ERP and Manufacturing environments. While I was responsible for the health and feeding of our systems, from cooling to fiber, my major project during my term was upgrading them from Oracle EBS 11.0 to the new Oracle EBS 11i, along with database upgrades. This was a major turning point in Oracle technology and management, so I was able to get deep into code and make improvements (some later adopted by Oracle, such as early StatsPack code). My legacy: I brought them into the 21st century, with new equipment and upgrades.

Sr. Oracle Dba

Answers.com was an early competitor to noted search engines like Ask Jeeves back in the dot.com days. We excelled at using early linguistics algorithms to 'answer' questions from users and pairing them with a weighted response from registered companies.I was responsible for their main Oracle RDMBS databases to handle real-time query storage and lookups, as well as reporting and billing systems. This was an in-house 'start-up' application - so I took them to the next level by upgrading their environments and hardening their footprint. This was early days of Oracle RAC (Oracle Parallel Systems - OPS) as well as a whole slew of new functions (Oracle 8.0 to 9i - major stack upgrade) such as CBO, MVs, and improved RMAN.Being a startup, money was tight and timelines were rushed. You really learn to work on your toes in these rapid-release environments. But compared to some of the things I've seen (such as a cleaning lady shutting us down to vacuum) - not much shocks me any more. I don't know if that's experience and training, or jaded indifference...Either way, I've seen it all.

2000 - 2001 ~1 yr

Oracle Applications Dba

Chicago, Illinois, Us

ConAgra is a major producer of food products throughout the world, with major brands such as Butterball and Swanson. It was here I started my journey into Oracle EBS. I was fortunate enough to be brought into the ground floor of a major Oracle EBS implementation - and was able to experience first-hand the 'old' days before autoconfig and adop. While these are great advancements in EBS management, we were forced to get deep into the tech-stacks and put together out-of-the-box solutions to handle unique situations common in early-adopted software.

Union Pacific Railroad is the nation’s leader in railway and railway services. I was personally responsible for over 45 individual production databases, in addition to their dev and test counterparts. This was early Oracle 7, and we had to come up with creative ways to monitor and manage that many instances at once. My legacy: Found my calling and my mentors while workin’ the live-long day.

What can I say – I bleed blue. I’m a decorated veteran who served honorably in Desert Shield/Storm, Deny Flight/Provide Promise, Southern Watch, and Uphold Democracy (and others that I can’t talk about). I was granted a Top Secret Clearance (unfortunately, not active anymore): but in all honesty, I got to do some really cool stuff and see some really incredible places. I served in a number of units, including Combat Comms and Forward Air Ops where I specialized in administering Intel and Mission Planning systems - made up of a number of different platforms and systems; Everything from Oracle and Sybase databases, Unix and DOS, as well as VAX/VMS and Sun Sparcs hardware to SGI flight simulators (Best one was the F-16 sim - did solidify why I wasn't a pilot though - crash and burn). What was most interesting was while fighting early equipment and software compatibility hiccups, we also had to come up with ways to deal with 'unusual' situations like keeping sand out of the CPUs. (You learn quickly to adapt and improvise in the field - especially when you land in a 3rd world country and you weren't sure if they used 110v or 220v) Of all my work and medals though, I’m most proud of my Humanitarian Medals for the work I did in the community after Hurricane Andrew in FL and in Sarajevo - rebuilding bombed-out schools and installing new networks and computers. My legacy: I hope I left the world a better place by my service, because it gave me a lifetime of memories. Oh yeah, I got to fly in a F-15 too (Langley AFB Airman of the Year Incentive ride - blacked out somewhere around 5Gs)
