Dev Academy Aotearoa provides a 15 week, full immersion, web development course with a strong focus on enhancing both the technical and human skills needed to excel in the industry.Throughout the course, I have gained confidence and experience in full stack web/software development. Working collaboratively with an amazing group of humans through various group projects using Agile Methodologies and pair programming, I have been able to enhance my knowledge and skills in vanilla Javascript, React.js, Redux, Node.js, SQLite, Knex.js, Chakra UI, RESTful APIs, Microsoft Visual Studio Code and Github. The most rewarding aspect of the course however was undoubtedly the emphasis that Dev places on developing the soft skills required to grow us students as individuals. The fast-paced, highly collaborative and intensive nature of the course allowed me to further enhance my skills in communication, giving and receiving feedback, and working effectively as a part of a team to solve problems and find solutions.

Between returning to New Zealand, and awaiting the start of the Dev Academy Aotearoa program in April 2022, I had the pleasure of working out in the Hawkes Bay sunshine at some of Freshco's leading orchards.The role involved strong attention to detail whilst collaborating, communicating and working alongside people from diverse backgrounds for tasks such as tree pruning, training and thinning. The highlight of the job was undoubtedly the fast passed harvest season between January and March where I provided tractor support to teams of up to 30 RSE workers. This involved communicating with other team members to ensure apple bins were organised set up appropriately throughout the orchard, workers were supported with bin relocations while picking, and full bins were carefully transported out of the summer heat into the loading areas.

As a primary/middle school teacher, I successfully implemented curriculum and project based learning practices which were supported by the production of high-quality classroom resources. This required me to plan and conduct dynamic and differentiated lessons across various grade levels through in-person, hybrid and remote learning models following the onset of COVID.I created formative and summative assessment materials and monitored student performance to inform future instruction and ensure that individual student needs were met. I liaised closely and met with parents and administration to discuss students' academic and emotional progress.

As part of my Teacher Preparation Certification I was required to complete a 3 month teaching internship and chose to venture to South America to complete this. At The International School Nido de Aguilas, I had the pleasure of working alongside a seasoned educator in a grade 1 classroom for several months where I not only provided in class support, but also planned and conducted my own lessons. The experience was massively rewarding, both personally and professionally. It provided me with practical experience in student-centered lesson planning and project based learning which complimented the theoretical components of the course.

Throughout my role as the academic lead at SABIS Sun International School, I conveyed clear instruction, feedback and unwavering mentorship to a team of 30+ teachers. I coordinated the academic curriculum and assessment materials across all subjects and a complex range of grade and subject levels.The role saw me encourage quality teaching standards through teacher training, observations, appraisals and constructive feedback. I was responsible for reviewing student progress data, developing action plans and monitoring progress in collaboration with the school director, teachers and parents.

In the head of English position, I was responsible for coordinating all subject, revision and assessment materials and schedules. In addition, I also analysed student performance against exam results and followed up with individualised action plans when further support was required.I conducted regular classroom observations and provided feedback and training to ensure ongoing teacher development and progression.I was responsible for quality checking exams to ensure accuracy and consistency across levels and submitting weekly reports to School Director, other academic staff and the administration team.Beyond my HOD responsibilities, I also planned, prepared, and delivered high quality English lessons to classes of up to 35 students.
