I managed the daily internal communications and strategy and supported external public relations for Republic, the second-largest U.S. regional airline ($1.2 billion annual revenues) flying for American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines to 100 cities in the U.S., Canada, Caribbean and Central America.Before my job was eliminated due to COVID-19 cutbacks, my responsibilities included:• Championed role as primary content creator and storyteller of corporate news, department features and profiles for 6,500 employees in 16 major markets. Released via websites, intranet and targeted emails.• Drafted and distributed local, regional and national news releases, and assisted in responding to broadcast, digital and print media inquiries.• Provided key leadership on the crisis and emergency response management team. This included participating in accident drills with mainline airlines, drafting and releasing news releases and social media posts, activating internal crisis messaging protocols and monitoring external media. Common scenarios included aircraft performance issues, weather cancellations and passenger incidents.• Shaped, edited and distributed executive leadership messages, as well as managed release of investor relations announcements and HR communications.• Trained, coached and/or managed various personnel, including onboarding and supervising interns and mentoring junior staffers.• Procured and directed external video and photography freelancers.• Maintained corporate style and brand standards (logos, fonts, colors); developed and managed marketing assets, including collateral and corporate apparel. The latter included managing Republic’s corporate merchandise store.• Provided media support, event planning and logistics for charitable and employee engagement events, including annual Plane Pull ($2 million raised and 8,000+ participants) and the Flyaway 5K ($125,000 raised and 1,000 participants) during my tenure.

As Night Metro Editor, I managed the content and presentation of the Metro & State section, and posted breaking news on IndyStar.com. I supervised the newsroom’s stable of nighttime reporters and photographers, directing news and impacting the product all the way to the last press run.

Duties included writing and posting breaking news, determining homepage lineup and display, producing video interviews, and promoting Star content on social media. I also wrote freelance stories on the side, interviewing TV stars, politicians, local sports personalities and others.My contributions to the team paid off, too: The Associated Press consistently ranked IndyStar.com among the best overall news websites in Indiana (2007-10, 2011-12).

I also trained, coached and coordinated TV appearances by Star staffers, most of whom were new to the video medium.
