The image at the top of the page, the peak on the left side, is Mount Everest and it stands at 29,029 feet. I have a goal to trek to the base camp at 17,601 feet. This is not about my goals of reaching Mount Everest. This is about reaching any summit. And to reach a summit, you must calculate the opportunity versus risk. What is the chance of reaching the top?For 2019, the final count showed that 658 climbers made the summit. Nine did not use oxygen and there were eight that dead on The Mountain. To climb successfully and reach the top of Mount Everest you have a 17.75% chance of dying, or 82.25% of living. The cost for an Everest expedition is between $20K and $45K and this does not guarantee that you will reach the summit, or if you will come home alive. On average, there are about 22,364 steps from the "base" camp to reach the summit of Mount Everest. So, it will cost you about .52 cents a step to "possibly" reach the summit, with a 17.75% chance of dying.Or, another way to look at it; "what an incredible experience to reach the 'top of the world!" And no amount of calculation will give you that exhilaration. What is your attitude about what you want?In your assessment, which perspective weighs more, the positive or negative?I have been to the top of many mountains. I have reached for the summits and have experienced what it feels like to be on top of the world. If you want to change your outcome, it will take one step in the right direction. If you need a guide, reach out to me and we'll look at what it takes to reach the top.Climb-on.-----------------------------------------------------If you would like to network, please send an invite to scott.climbing@gmail.com, it would be my pleasure to connect.-----------------------------------------------------The Mount Everest image was taken by W.
