Deputy Fire Chief
CurrentAssists the Fire Chief in planning, developing, coordinating, organizing, and supervision of the Fire Department.Prepares, maintains, and monitors the departmental operating budget.Prepares legal documents for the department, such as Interlocal Agreements, Memorandums of Understanding, etc.Oversees the administration of the departmental sections: Strategic Programs, Emergency Operations, Administrative Services, and Support Services.Attends Board of County Commission meetings and public meetings on behalf of the Fire Chief.Develops and coordinates plans for efficient and effective operations within assigned areas. Makes recommendations to the Fire Chief relative to the long-term needs for maintaining and improving effective operations within assigned areas.Responds to emergency calls as necessary and may assume command and direct activities (in the absence of the Fire Chief) under the department’s jurisdiction and authority.Ability to maintain discipline, to lead and command effectively, and direct firefighters and equipment under emergency conditions.Manages and administers discipline in accordance with bargaining unit agreements and merit system policies and procedures, which includes but not limited to, conducting pre-disciplinary hearings, conducting appropriate investigations and issuing findings.Maintains communication with subordinate personnel.Delegates authority and responsibility for the achievement of areas goals, objectives, and priorities.Performs related work as required.
