I founded Agile Austin, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to support the practices of agile software development as set forth in the Agile Manifesto. Subsequently I served as President for the first three formative years as the organization grew from nothing to over 130 members and a full complement of programs including workshops, book discussion groups, Executive Luncheons, an open space conference, an expert consultancy, monthly meetings, and more. During this period I also guided the organization to obtain 501c6 non-profit status. I've also served as Education Chair. In this position, I was responsible for Agile Austin's educational programs, including, Austin Community College classes, book discussion group administration, workshops, agile exchange, and other educational programs. In addition, I've been chair of the Keep Austin Agile regional conference and I now serve the organization as its Treasurer.

As Enterprise Agile Coach I was responsible for coaching, mentoring and training agile teams, management and leaders. During my tenure at Netspend I introduced Big Room Planning, monthly agile training seminars, and focused skills development activities for Product Owners and Scrum Masters. In addition I facilitated several agile Community of Practices meetings for Product Owners and Scrum Masters and facilitated the corporate Agile Guiding Coalition that set overarching agile policies.

As Agile Practice Leader I am responsible for training, coaching and guiding Agile teams at PayPal. To this end I have trained over 700 people in basic and advanced agile concepts. In addition I have coached dozens of teams. I also have responsiblity for developing and socializing PayPal's strategy to be a more agile corporation and defining what it means to be agile at PayPal.

CyberTrader's "Guru" of Software Development Lifecycle process improvement and tools. Managed the assessment and introduction of capacity planning in CyberTrader’s 700+ server data center. When complete, CyberTrader engineers gained real-time visibility into server performance and monthly capacity reports provided early-warning of performance issues.

Developed a three tier time-to-market based project management system. The system facilitated very rapid response to production defects, timely responses to regulatory demands, and delivery of larger scale feature oriented project releases timed to seasonal trade shows. Introduced defect tracking, build management, workflow management, software development process engineering, technology documentation, Word/Excel/Outlook/Access helper tools, and technology training seminars. Built and managed a team of five project managers from scratch to coordinate development and delivery of all client facing products as well as dozens of different server components in a highly networked, 800+ server data center. Developed and deployed a project management website that included near real-time project status on all projects, architecture diagrams, process descriptions, project mail logs and how-to links. Managed the project to outsource Quality Assurance and Test to Russia.

Commercially delivered Storyserver 5 for AIX and fulfilled term of the IBM partnership contract by directing a team of twenty-five contractors and employees in successful seven month development effort. Founded the “maintenance” project and delivered timely product updates by introducing processes and tools to manage delivery along with metric collection and analysis. Simultaneously managed the Development Center, Application Deployment Server, and Syndication Server projects to a synchronized release with the flagship product. Smoothly relocated six hundred engineers into a new development facility as one of a collaborative team of project managers, each with dedicated responsibilities. Managed the home office side of a project to create a development lab in India.

Managed, from concept to release, a twenty-member team to add groundbreaking new technology into the AutoTester SAP load test engine, resulting in a clear competitive advantage in performance and capability. Directed all phases of a twenty-member development project that resulted in the release of the award winning AutoTester/2000, a Y2K test tool. Managed project that delivered the Internet business logic test tool, AutoTester/Web, on time and to requirements. Managed a five member local project team and coordinated with remote partner’s project team to develop AutoTester Client/Server, Visual Smalltalk Enterprise Edition.

Ported AutoTester for Windows to 16-bit OS/2 and then to 32-bit OS/2.Built device drivers, device monitors, and messaging hooks to record and playback keystrokes in the OS/2 Presentation Manager. Built a HLLAPI terminal emulation program to test OS/2 GUI based 3270 emulators. Created a Virtual Memory Management system that significantly reduced the memory footprint of AutoTester as a TSR program.Designed a table-driven keyboard BIOS system that reduced the development costs of adding support for proprietary terminal emulation software. Engineered an interrupt driven keystroke playback system to automate applications that directly replaced the keyboard handler.Built one of the first screen capture/playback systems to “film” screen activity and then “project” it back Created one of the first truly stable, always available, TSR interfaces for DOS.Sold my proprietary automation tool to SRC for cash and options. Was hired as principal engineer in firm.

Designed and built "The Exhibitionist", a pioneering software automation system directed at the IBM PC market and which led directly to my position at Software Recording Corporation. Created the "SeaWar", real-time, full-screen war simulation program, then licensed it to CompuServe as one of the first commercial, multiplayer games offered via a national network.

Designed Help and Error Handling in the InfoWorld-award-winning MindSight, a Macintosh version of IFPS. Built the IFPS/Personal full screen editor, which grossed over one million dollars in its first three months. Created the Sentry data entry and validation system, a product that grossed $700K its first year on the market. Enhanced and maintained the Interactive Financial Planning System (IFPS),. provided customer support, ported the software to new environments and established installation procedures that reduced servicing costs.
