Working as a mining engineer researching issues and solutions pertaining to underground coal mine dust control. This research targets the lowering of respirable dust concentrations of underground coal miners to ensure safe working conditions. Research includes: improving continuous miner respirable dust control practices, testing of water sprays for underground dust control use, use of longwall underside shield water sprays for respirable dust control, use of canopy air curtain on shuttle cars and roof bolters, etc.

Benwood, Wv (Shoemaker Mine)

Worked primarily under the longwall maintenance supervisor during longwall setup. This included constructing the headgate and tailgate pieces and preparing the shields for operation. Also was exposed to longwall operation and various outby work (setting posts, cans and props, rock dusting, etc.).

Hollidaysburg, Pa

Tested and analyzed various sand samples, and using that data, determined the specifications needed to process material to desired size fractions. Also received first-hand experience with material sampling and helped with a sand processing plant start-up.

Canonsburg, Pa

Assisted with the improvement of existing coal processing plants to ensure maximum plant efficiency and product output. This included generation of partition and size selectivity curves from plant circuit data and expanding raw washability data using company software packages.
