A sport and wellness leadership, coaching and program design consultancy.Since 1983, I have provided direct athlete coaching, coach development, leadership training, program evaluation and strategic planning for a number of different sports and non-sport organizations. Originally focused specifically on canoe-kayak, services have expanded more generally into strategic leadership, performance management and program design. In the early 1980s, the “Canoe-Tech model” that professionalized year-round training was widely adopted by Canadian canoe clubs as well as entrepreneurs interested in advancing the science of athlete preparation in a variety of other sports.In the last few years, my services have been rendered to a genetic performance company (Athletigen), strategic plans for non-profits and a two and a half year long project where I led an initiative for NS YMCAs to integrate with healthcare providers. We developed socio-economically sensitive wellness programming for those managing and preventing chronic disease in collaboration with the healthcare system and academia. Most recently, I was contracted to document best practices in Canadian sport mentorship programs for the Canadian Sport Institute, Atlantic and MindFrame Connect, who assist entrepreneurs seeking to upskill their performance.

Initially contracted part-time in March of 2020, the full-time role was flexible and provided support to the organization at the discretion and needs of the CEO. Generally, where new opportunities were presented to the YMCA, I evaluated their potential, their fit with the strategic plan and then developed an "opportunity case" for moving forward where I assisted the champion of the initiative. Specific accomplishments: I assisted in the development of Y-GHD's new strategic plan and scoped the viability of a wellness program for the YMCA. Eventually, l led the development of wellness programming for aging adults managing chronic conditions through the provision of appropriate and safe physical activity options (the YMCA's "LiveWell" program). I developed an opportunity case for child care expansion and then supported the provincial effort to expand YMCA provincial operations as part of Nova Scotia's goal of adding 9500 new spaces.

Athletigen uses DNA innovation to inspire and empower goal-oriented people to connect to products and services that enhance their lives.We were founded as a company dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential through applied genetics and are now expanding to mass markets in the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, sports medicine and human performance industries. We have developed a database of DNA information, the ability to analyze that data, and the capacity to design custom health and athletic performance DNA reports that optimize the lives of individuals.Based on increased consumer demand for personalized products and the infinite potential to develop individualized offerings tailor-made to a person’s DNA, our aim is to make it easy for anyone to use genetics to enhance their lives. It is my job as Athletigen’s Chief Operating Officer to ensure we fulfill that potential.

The High Performance Director is responsible for the design and implementation of CanoeKayak Canada's High Performance System as well as to oversee the implementation of its Olympic and World Championship sprint racing program.

Provided strategic advice to the Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and contributed leadership to ad hoc corporate initiatives of the provincial government. Oversaw intergovernmental plans and strategies and made recommendations for review by the Premier. During this period, served as Acting Deputy Minister, August - December, 2011.

From 1996 until 2008, I had the privilege of working with CBC Sports covering the Olympic Games (and numerous World Championships, World Cups and special events) as a Canoe-Kayak television analyst. This involved significant media training opportunities, performing television race commentary, participating in stage-setting radio interviews pre-Games and offering pre and post event performance analysis.
