President, Board of Directors, LifeSpan…A Community Service, Inc., a Jackson, Michigan based nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide residential and community support services for children and adults with mental and/or physical disabilities.

Coordinated the writing, submission and evaluation of federal, state and private foundation grants that support the United Way of Jackson County’s Community Solutions process, several community initiatives and the agency’s organizational operation.

Supported three Community Solutions Teams that engaged community stakeholders in a dialogue focused on the key issues of Health, Income and Education. These Teams developed strategies and made recommendations for the funding of programs that demonstrated a positive impact. Primary focus on the development and analysis of outcome indicators, performance data, grant writing, and measuring return on invested public dollars.

Accessed and coordinated over $6 million in federal, state and private grants. Duties included, staff supervision, grant writing, coalition building, financial and budgetary analysis, strategic planning, sustainability planning and the management of three community based initiatives.

Responsible for staff supervision, management of the agency budget, implementing board policy, fund development, marketing, public/media relations, program development, volunteer coordination, grant writing and the management of a $1.3 million capital campaign to build a new animal shelter (construction completed Spring 2003).

Conducted children’s foster care home reviews, making recommendations to the Michigan Department of Commerce and Industry regarding the licensing of these homes. Successfully marketed the concept of children’s foster care in both Jackson and Washtenaw Counties resulting in a 5% increase in requests for home licensing reviews.

Successfully supervised case managers and a registered nurse in a community mental health setting. Acquired skills in employee evaluation, pre-employment interviews and clinical case supervision. Developed, implemented and chaired the Critical Management Team which included a physician, nurses, psychologists, and social workers to aggressively address the needs of the agency’s most costly clients. Contributed to several process improvement teams in preparation for JCAHO accreditation.

Supervised the field placement of undergraduate students enrolled in Michigan State University's School of Social Work. In 1997, recognized for “Outstanding Contributions in Social Work Field Instruction” from Michigan State University College of Social Science.

Supervised the field placement of undergraduate social work students enrolled at Spring Arbor University.

Received specialized training at NATTC Lakehurst, New Jersey in Aircraft Handling and Air Crash Rescue. Assigned to Naval Air Facility Sigonella.
