The City Council, consisting of 8 members, is responsible for overseeing all city operations for 265,000 citizens. As the 70th largest city in the U.S., we approved the operating and capital investment budget of approximately $500M per year and 2,000 full time employees. • Initiated and proposed, as one of the leaders on the City Council, the vote for an Economic Development Fund (EDF) to attract, retain, and grow businesses in Plano. Since 2006, a $30M expenditure from EDF has produced $860M of high quality business capital investment, which created a 2,800% return on community investment for Plano taxpayers.• Co-chaired the Finance Committee that advised the City Council on special financial issues yearly such as feasibility studies, service rate increases, and reviewing the annual city audit• Chaired the Tax Increment Financing Board which oversaw a community investment redevelopment area involving a major regional mall within Plano• Served on the leadership team, while representing Plano, of National League of Cities’ Community & Economic Development Executive Board. This Board dealt with major national issues which included advocating with Congress and the Executive Branch of the United States Government• Represented Plano on the North Texas Regional Transportation Council Board which selected, prioritized, and allocated Federal and State highway funding for major highway projects in the North Texas area and provided innovative ideas for regional transportation • Acted as liaison to many Plano boards and commissions including Planning & Zoning, Parks, Economic Development, Building Standards, Water District, Library, Transportation, Heritage, Multi Cultural Outreach, and Community Relations
