In my current role of Senior Systems Support Technician at the Queen’s Library, I work with a variety of computers, servers and other technology such as specialized library equipment and high end scanners. I manage software licenses and am the “go to” person for security assessments in our department. I also train other staff on general and library specific technologies and work with external service providers. Our team maintains and monitors the different public computers of the Library. I am familiar with working on niche software products with limited documentation. For example, I recently installed the updated Cambridge Structural Database on one of the Library’s public computers.Since starting at the Library in January, 2023, I took the initiative and gained certification in Alma and Primo, two very specific library technologies that are used to manage the collection and the website access at the Library.

As a Level 1 Tech Support at Queen’s ITS (2022), I helped triage and troubleshoot a variety of technical issues. I used Service Now daily and was able to identify a database error and pass the information on so that ServiceNow could be restored to full functionality.I also used Remote Desktop Applications and discovered issues with users’ accounts in Active Directory. I enjoyed the challenge of identifying and resolving complex issues, helping users with the difficulties of modern technology, and finding ways to improve processes and work effectiveness.

My experience in management is significant, as I was the manager of a Belleville automotive business for almost ten years. As manager, I was in charge of all different aspects of the business including hiring, training, supervising, quality control and safety, plus other responsibilities. I developed several unique packages that greatly increased our sales. I enjoy the challenge of sales and have had exceptional results by mail, in person and on the phone. As I have a computer background, I handled the digital advertising of the business. I created and managed the websites, Facebook pages, and online ads. Our Google listing reached the top of the Google search engine and stayed there for many years, offering essential information to customers. Online, direct mail and print advertising was very successful and our sales more than doubled. As business manager, I worked with various local organizations e.g. the City of Belleville Fire Department by focusing on excellent customer service. I am comfortable talking to people from all walks of life, and, as a local business person, I have come to know many people in the community. My college course which had a focus on business computing included an accounting class. I have used Microsoft applications and accounting software such as Quickbooks. .
